With the arrival of joey barton everybody is wandering whether it will be derry or faurlin that will make way, well maybe they can all play when we are away from home, i think we could deploy christmas tree formation, basically a 4,3,2,1 , when we are away giving us more defensive cover by dropping a more attack minded player and reverting to our favoured 4,2,3,1 when at home .

    what do you think?

We did that once with Barton, will work very nicely if Bothroyd is a quick player (cant say I've watched him much) as Barton's through balls and distribution are outstanding a lot of the time.

I think I suggested this a while ago and got shouted down for it being too defensive.

With Taarabt in the team it's risky to say the least. If we're sticking with Derry, which I feel we should for now, it leaves him exposed too.

Our squad is best suited to the 4-2-3-1/4-3-2-1 imo.

    Kenny
    Young Gabbidon Ferdinand Traore
    Wright-Phillips Barton Faurlin Taarabt
    Campbell Bothroyd

Just think there's more goals in this line up!

Without a doubt it would be exciting going forward. I just worry about Taarabt and SWP helping out the full-backs. Certainly worth a go when we need a goal.

I think it's worth trying for home games Watford, away we can always revert to other formations.

Have to agree, looks like a good formation away from home particularly against the stronger teams.

same as northy for me , can chage the formation with those personell.

    could play 4-2-3-1 , 4-3-3 , 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1.

Barton will give us the opportunit to change things around depending on what is going on in the game and whom we are playing.

    very exciting times .

Agreed. I always dislike starting with 1 up front in any scenario. Warnock seems to favour it though and with a whole array of midfield talent to squeeze in and much more limited options up top (I'm not convinced DJ has Prem quality despite his haul last term) I suspect we will see this a lot. Bothroyd better to be darn good at holding the ball up while waiting for support otherwise he and we may be in for a frustrating time of it.

Agree with Northolts formation. Other alternative:

    -------------Kenny-------------------
    Young Ferdinand Gabbidon Traore
    ---------Barton Faurlin----------------
    SWP--------Taarabt--------Smith
    ------------Bothroyd-----------------

On original post if there needs to be a choice between Faurlin and Derry, for me it is unquestionably Faurlin that gets the choice.

Traore and Taarabt on the left frightens me to be honest, IDW's team above has a better balance to it. An alternative would be Derry for Faurlin to give a bit more defensive cover for Traore when he goes forward.

As I've said before, if Taarabt does throw a strop Faurlin could be tried in the playmaker role...

I can't see Adel throwing a strop as he did last season. He's seen the team built up around him (he and Kenny seem the only certainties from last season's team) and he knows he's in the big time and not cock of the walk anymore. Last season, he didn't have to prove himself to anyone. This year, he most definitely does...
