I am a fan, and have a lot of time for Rick Everitt. Through him campaigning for the return to The Valley, to his working for Charlton and helping bring the thousands of lost fans back through various initiatives. The man is Charlton to the core. His 'rag', The Voice of the Valley is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Insightful and thought provoking, leaving me finished reading it knowing a lot more about what goes on at Charlton behind the scenes than I can ever dream of. I do not understand, or agree, with the sniping he gets from various fans. The fans that have a crack at him should get off their big fat bottoms and do something if they can do any better.
I had a mild pop at the usual suspects on ITTV this morning regarding RE. They have a thread on which half a dozen of them regularly get stuck into him. Thought I'd try to bring a little balance to proceedings, offer an opposing point of view in a spirit of open debate. According to Survivor, for daring to do this there is no place for me at CAFC! I should go and support a Club that has a perfect owner. Life's too short to have to put up with nonsense like that. If they don't want me around then fine, I'm gone. And for good this time. No more flip-flopping for me anymore guys, Lardy is back!
Loathe is a bit strong, he is a fellow Charlton fan after all. I don’t like his politics, and I don’t like his style or sense of entitlement. He thinks the club owes him a job for life & a living. I genuinely think he was psychologically damaged when Charlton sacked him for Gross Misconduct.
I don't have any problem with Rick Everett per se. There may well have been stuff going on when the club employed him which was unsavory, but he's gone now. We have a very poor owner, and while we can possibly give some thanks for his ongoing payments, we need him gone - the damage he has done is incalculable. Everitt wants him gone. He's on the same barracade as the rest of us, so again, he's not the enemy. There is a small coda that efforts to remove duchatalet are in no way an effort for Rick to get back to working at the Valley. Not saying that is his intention, but keeping everything out in the open, he is another Charlton fan.
Everitt is a bit like a 1970’s tribute act. His band is called The Valley Party. He should have left it at that back in the day...he would have been fondly remembered by most if he had. Now he has just become a querulous pain in the arse.
One thing I do admire about Everitt is the way he studiously ignores “a certain poster” on the CL takeover thread It’s almost like he is aware of the multitude of DMs that have been exchanged about that person on all 3 Charlton forums.
I don't know what he's really like. He doesn't give anything away if you try to chat to him. There's no doubting his commitment to Charlton, yet at games he doesn't appear to go through the emotional roller-coaster that the rest of us do. Just seems inhibited, yet he's an excellent public speaker. If you stick your head above the parapet then you become exposed to public analysis, ridicule even, which is why I respect those who do, including those whose politics I disagree with.
Honest question @ForestHillBilly If Sheik Mansour bought Charlton & invested £100m in the team, do you think Everitt would stop agitating ? I don’t. The only time he ever stopped agitating in public was when Murray employed him. Inside the tent p1ssing in.
watch him at games he doesn't care unless he is spitting out a protest song ... vile old soap dodger if you ask me
"There's no doubting his commitment to Charlton" Superbly put FHB. A shame people fail to realise this.
Dribbling and staggering around shouting incoherent rubbish isn't called passion its called drunkenness
I have to correct you on one point bummie. I don't start dribbling until around 21.00 when the train is pulling in to London.
