It was Ramsay who completely lost his man. What did Stephens do?

    He was on the pitch.

Whilst I'm no fan of Stephens as a defender and would rank him last of our 5 senior ones by a fair distance (yeah behind Hoedt), I don't think you can blame the second goal on him. I thought he was OK overall yesterday

I can't comment on the game last night because by the time the game was fifteen minutes old I had downed my third very generous glass of scotch and shortly after fell asleep. I woke up in time for the penalties and the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov said she thought the game was so poor she didn't think it was worth waking me up for. We had a conversation afterwards in which I said that watching football at home in your armchair was better than going to the game because you were warm, you could drink what you like while watching, and if the game was crap you could get up and do something else or have a doze. You also didn't have to listen to the crap from the morons behind and you can turn the sound down and make a cup of tea when the pundits are on nor do you get pushed and jostled going down the stairway on leaving which I am finding increasingly worrying. Best of all you become emotionally detached from the sport. We are now looking at the cost of sky TV with all the sports channels instead of season tickets for next year.

PS I will let you know what I thought of the match when I have seen the high lights.

Under 15,000 went at £12 a ticket. I wonder what the BBC viewing figures were, because there's no way they will bother to book out 3+ hours of BBC 1 for games like this much longer. Free advice: if you want the FA Cup to have a future, think of a way to change things very fast.

    Drop VAR.

    Increase prize money.

Introduce a rule similar to JPT limiting the amount of changes allowed.

    Lob Murphy in a skip.

JWP has done really well in the absence of Højbjerg. JWP/Højbjerg/Romeu as midfield three?

More accurately football fans way, but you can take it too far either way really. Some people can't get over if a player has had a few bad games and doesn't really matter what that player does they will be always be **** in their eyes.

Conversely you stand up for him and Forster all the time, even when they are at fault/have been playing poorly. You can criticise a player without it making them a scapegoat or that you hate them, it is a football discussion forum, if somebody does something good/bad then it is going to get discussed

Its a Saints fans trait to find someone to blame.
Been on various Saints Facebook forums, just about every player has been blamed, never play for us again, sell now etc etc
That includes poor Ramsey who was to blame for loosing Waghorn's second goal and should never play for us again
God there are some muppets around

Think it will always have a future because it is the self proclaimed "best domestic cup in the world" (it isn't). I don't think you can really take a 3rd round replay on a Wednesday night in January as some hard evidence that it will be binned anytime soon.

The BBC may drop it like they have lots of other sports but another channel will pick it up

My view on it was that whereas Ramsay was playing 3rd CB and marking Waghorn in the first half, he was moved to right back in the 2nd half and it would have been someone else (Sam perhaps?) that should have been assigned to mark him at set pieces in the 2nd, it looked like the orgaisation had failed to address the matter. Just saw the replay and it is clear Kayne was expecting Jack S to deal with the cross, was completely flat footed when Jack missed it, no sign of the Vest.

Viewing figures have been rising steadily for the FA Cup, from what I can see. Given how lucrative the TV rights to the competition are -- combined domestic/international, as far as I can tell, are in the £175-200m range annually -- I'm guessing all parties are pretty blase about the attendances. Our home replay against Norwich two years ago was even more sparsely attended, and early-round midweek replays in general aren't big draws.

If anyone (apart from Ramsay), it should be blamed on Vestergaard, since he kind of went wandering away from his man, which I think confused Stephens and Ramsay.

Just out of interest, which cup competitions are better than the FA Cup? Genuinely intrigued.

On the bright side, we are unbeaten in the cups this season in game play.

Fair point. Matt Hughes below makes my point better than I can. Attendances don't really matter but they do let us judge fan priorities. The money has doubled which is good, but it's still not on a scale that PL clubs will sacrifice a single league match for. We'll probably limp on for a while longer but I don't think it will survive like this. For a start scrapping replays just seems obvious to me.

(I'll probably shut up now or it just seems like I'm trolling)
