This game may well hamper our preparation for Everton. But not playing in the forth round next Saturday, should stand us in good stead for the Palace game on the following Weds. They have Spurs on the Sunday, and they will go strong, one would presume. Zaha watch should be thrilling!

Just back. Haven’t read through the thread yet, but geeeeesus. We are spectacularly good at giving up 2 goal leads. And Saints.... if you’re going to lose, can you do it in normal time please, I’ve gotta be up again for work in 5 hours.

Have we ever gone out of both cup competitions on penalties?

I thought Ramsay (note spelling) had a decent game, looked fairly good as 3rd CB, and not too bad at right back when he was moved over, considering he is only 18 and not exactly experienced. TJ isn't a full back, it was odd decision to play him there?

And Johnson looked useful. Had to calm it after the yellow mind, but that will do him a lot of good.

Disappointing to lose that, but I'm really proud and pleased at how much game time our kids got over the two legs. That's more of the Southampton way than the previous 30 months.

Agreed but what really pisses me off is that they fielded a strong team and we did't. Three of their better players are loanees from Chelsea and Liverpool and one I think has been picked for the full England squad. Also the differences in position isn't that great, we are near the bottom of our division and they are near the top of theirs. Hardly a giant killing. We had so many absentees from our 1st eleven, but did the beeb mention that.

He played better in 2nd half, but so many times he would do something well and then just **** it up

He kept moaning about cold feet, but it was down to the fact that all the blood was in his cock and he was performing a 5 finger shuffle all over Derby.

That was very disappointing on so many levels. The disallowed goal seemed harsh if it was just an arm that put the player offside but the squad selection, whilst hampered by injuries and suspensions , included too many fringe players who did not step up to the plate. Johnson had a few good moments but I was not impressed by either Ramsay or Slattery. I would have to say that , having now see Gunn for the first time, it is McCarthy all the way for me.

Until the two Derby goals, I thought Stephens and Vestaggard played well. I was less impressed with Armstrong and thought Long looks out of sorts.

For me, that we can out in this kind of performance still is a worry. With the players steadily becoming available, I think gambling with youngsters en masse will need to stop. We should have put on more senior players at two nil and shut up shop. For me, the most disappointing team selection and result from Man City. I can appreciate the lack of availability of senior players forced Ralph's hand but with be loathe to see him a similar line up again. I think the lessons should now have been learned.

He was also at fault for their second. So we’ll call it quits.

For me the lesson to be learned from last night is that the squad is seriously lacking in both quality and depth. No blame attaches itself to Ralph for that.

Yes agree and whilst there was not bags of quality from us, there was passion and desire. There seemed to be a hunger to get the ball and try to make things happen.

No one hid and for most of the 120 minutes played ok as a team. It was a makeshift team who you could see that the fa cup meant something to them.

It didn't work out on the night but I'm pleased to see players in red n white giving 100%.

There will be a bit more quality for Everton and this team, that Ralph will build, will grow together and move forward.

Disappointed but not throwing in the towel on the youngsters.

    Up the ****ing saints
