Lot of people starting to make comparisons with 2007/8. That was when an unfancied City gained momentum as the season went on. Phul Buckingham tweeted about the similar games/points position after 27 games. So here are the stats https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007–08_Hull_City_A.F.C._season We have 19 games left. eleven seasons ago we W11 D4 L4 = 37 points from those 19 games. This season, we have Derby, Norwich, Middlesborough and WBA to play away. At home we have Sheffield United and Bristol last two home games These are the six pointers. Of the mid table dark horse lurkers we have Villa, Forest away and Birmingham and DQPR at home. We need to nail the home games as the away ones are tougher (on paper). Of course, none of this matters if we continue current form where we can beat anyone home or away. Eleven years ago this weekend we lost at home to WBA who looked a class above with Kevin Phillips up front. However it was the return game the following month that signalled that we could do it where we went to the leaders and beat them on their own midden (just like we did to the vermin the other week after they'd beaten us here). All to play for...
There’s only one thing you need to know. Fraizer Campbell is in town. So get your Wembley directions back out of the drawer. #fraizerisintown
We finished 3rd in ‘08 gathering 37 points in the last 19 games. We only need to finish 6th to get into the play-offs & are already a point better off than the first time. Get yourselves measured up for your Wembley Suits. It’s happening.
Easter Monday (penultimate home game) v Sheffield Utd will be key. (No doubt it will get moved for telly) They are top two now and that badge-kissing 100% Blunt anorak wearer of a manager will be sniffing the PL by then. I look forward to another cocky away support silenced like yesterday.
Without getting carried away some of the stuff we played again yesterday was excellent. Some will argue anything is possible now whilst others like myself are still a bit coy but as the run continues,it’s become harder and harder to disagree logically. I still think we need more cover, especially in defence but injuries apart, most of the ingredients are already there now for a serious attempt at the play offs.
At the moment we are playing better football more consistently than 07/08. There were some shockers last time including the 1 shot game at Ipswich in the last match that still had automatic possibilities
I was there that day. We needed to win and Stoke needed to lose for us to go up, Think it was a bridge too far for us that day. We looked frazzled. The loss at Brammall Lane dint help either. We had some **** results in 2008 like a 1-1 with Col U and a night game v Cov where the team got booed off at half time and chants of " Browny Browny sort it out"
Remember that game v Blunts. Think Quinny scored for them who we later signed. What happened after that was history as they say.
Remember that Coventry game , we were awful that night . Folan got the winner with the last kick of the game when one on one with the keeper .
We were losing 0-2 at home to Bpool in Feb before we pulled it back to 2-2....wasn't all plain sailing after New Year
City started the season as bookies favourites for a relegation struggle and I'd booked our annual holidays (a trip to Canada) for the end of the season. CIty made it to the playoffs and I watched the Watford games before flying off to Vancouver. We probably passed Canada Tiger going in the opposite direction. I watched the final in our hotel with emotional text messages from my son who'd gone to the match. Still a great day and our congratulatory message was read out on Radio Humberside only minutes after the final whistle. I'm definitely holding off on our holiday this year.
