Oh well Bournemouth (and Palace fans) get their wish. https://www.skysports.com/football/...harged-by-fa-over-comments-made-about-referee Guess his previous issues haven't helped Troy's cause as Charlie Austin got away with his rant.
In my view questioning a referee's courage on tv is totally unacceptable and plainly a stupid action by Troy. Will he learn from it, history suggests not.
This makes me so angry, an official's mistake can ultimately cost a manager his job but God help a manager or player who points out his mistake. If goalkeepers are over-protected these days, then referees are covered with cotton wool and bubble wrap.
Just rather fed up with the suits as Fez calls them, fussing around such things, yet cannot deal with the larger problems of crooks taking over football clubs. I am also appalled that a Watford supporter should constantly keep taking a dig at Troy. He is not squeaky clean, but he does a great job for the club.
If you mean me I have met Troy several times and really enjoyed his company, he can be very funny. That does not excuse his unusual need to go beyond acceptable levels both on the pitch (grabbing a player by the throat) or in press interviews where he manages to embarrass himself and more importantly the club. If this latest outburst results in a ban then it seriously affects our football club. He will have plenty of time to nurture his reputation for 'straight talking' when he eventually retires.
Yet nothing is really done about on field abuse which much be worse ? He said both us and Bournemouth could have had players sent off so wasn't bias like Austin.
Typical of the double standards and sheer hypocrisy of the self interested, preening prancers that run our game.
Total ineptitude by the FA but we all knew this would happen when he said it. Troy really needs to learn to button it, he's done things like this too often to expect to get away with it
It probably is a bit harsh to charge him but also unsurprising. The FA will feel they have to protect their refs from criticism as otherwise it will be open-house after every game! Sure a few seem to get away with it (most recently Austin and Warnock) but think Deeney has been treading a fine lately too with some comments - like the targeting of Zaha and how we will kick Richarlison! Sometimes wish he would keep his mouth shut as brings unwanted attention to the club and wonder if the refs will just have it in for us (more so) I think Deeney is just playing the long game, for a career in TV once he retires... so he's the edgy, honest pundit!
Spot on - he's done it too often so a charge was inevitable. But yet again it shows the ridiculous inconsistency of the FA - they don't charge everyone and there seems to be no specific standards for what is and isn't an offence. He will just have to score a couple against Palace to make it up to us
I had a discussion with a colleague yesterday and we found out that a PL referee earns £70k per season - not sure if that's across the board, or those who are considered the top referees. We didn't look into what assistants earn. These people are looking after matches where most of the players and probably the managers are earning more than that in a week, and that may be a part of the reason for the various comments made, but forgetting that without the officials there would be no matches. I think that officials should be able to have the right of reply in the media - the response of the player or manager concerned to that would then determine whether there should still be a charge to be answered (it would probably save the FA money on admin costs for the charges). There is an increase of referees dropping out of the system as they are receiving verbal or even physical abuse - without the young referees coming through, where will our game be in, for example, 20 years from now? In TDs case, I know that emotions run high after a match, but starting with "From where I was, it looked like...." would imply that the relevant official may have seen it differently, as he wasn't in the same place on the pitch, so he would less likely to be charged (if he still is, it would probably reduce the punishment) - I think that is where a sports psychologist (I assume WFC have one) would make themselves useful.
Trouble is with post match interviews is you never really get a fair reflection as the managers and players are so bias - just look at the Huddersfield/Cardiff penalty debate yesterday. At least Deeeny and Javi were honest enough to admit both teams could have had a man sent off! Football is such a high pressured game because of the money any decision will get debated now more than the actual football. I agree - refs are so important now that you feel they ought to explain what they have given as much as the managers have to!
I didn't' actually think that TD was being abusive or offensive but he clearly had stopped on the line so to speak......
If it is ok for pundits on MOTD etc to criticize referring decision why is not acceptable for players/managers to voice an opinion as long as not abusive?
