Having seen the marvellous effort in our season with gus aiding the slanty eyed one and his subsequent tremendous success with Brighton, you would have to wonder where we would be today if we could have held on to Gus or promoted him. It was all to clear when he left wise on his own that he was the brains of the outfit, a point further proven with Brighton. Of course the ayatullah would never have kept him anyway because Poyet has ambition, something bates lacks and doesnt like to see in his managers either. You see it tends to make batess life more complicated than it need be. Long after our dictator has gone, I would have no problem in Gus returning to us. Of course it will never happen, hes possibly heading to the Premiership soon with Brighton
Perhaps he can bring the Brighton chairman with? How were they able to build a new stadium, get promoted and signe new players with a decent investment? Oh, now I remember, Peter, whats-his-name, wasn't chairman there about a decade ago. (Sigh) How much longer can he be blamed for every mishap and mismanagement that happens at Elland Road?
I'm tempted to think 'he deserted us, **** him'. But then again, who in their right mind wouldn't desert Bates if they had the chance and weren't a Leeds fan?
He was #2 to Dennis Wise in League 1 at the time he was offered a similar position in the Prem with Spurs where he spent the last 3 years of his playing career. Come on, can you REALLY blame the guy? Hypothetically, he may have also known DW was on his way out and that he would not be offered the job once he left.
Not had a bad word to say about us since then either. Another one to put on the 'slipped through our hands' list along with Herbert Chapman, Eric Cantona, Sami Hyypia, Brede Hangeland et al.
Always thought Gus was the man for the job - though I'll support Grayson for as long as he's Leeds manager
Hind sight is a marvellous thing Gus was unproven as a manager he has had tremendous support from his boss what has the dictator given Simon answer please on a postage stamp
Although I can understand why he left to go to Spurs, he still ditched the club when we were on that great run and looked like doing the impossible and winning promotion on -15. If both Poyet and Wise stayed that season, it could have been very different.
I'd be happy with Gus back, I'd even ask him to put himself down as player manager, as he's fitter than most and still scores goals for fun at reserve games.
Yep Gus back would do for me too but not under Bates. It has to be Bates out first give Grayson a decent crack with a tenner to spend and if he can't make it work poach Gus assuming he would want to leave Brighton.
Mentioning Kandol reminds me - what went wrong there? TK and JB were going great guns and scoring equally well in the 2007/08 season until TK got to about 9 goals and then seemed to go off of the boil completely. Anyone know what went wrong?
POYET - No chance! Do people not remember that Poyet (if he was the brains behind the team) took Leeds into league one football after inheriting a side that should have finished mid-table at worst. Wise/poyet failed to sort the goalkeeping/ defence out and we were relegated with a side that should have done so much better. Butler Gregan and Sullivan were all shipped out and Kilgallon sold. We brought in Robbie Elliott, Alan Thompson, Tore Andre Flo, Armando Sa (definitely a Poyet signing) and Tresor Kandol!!!! Great signings!!! Then when Poyet had a chance to make a miracle happen he left to join Spurs as a translator coach!! He was not assistant at Spurs!! Leeds form dropped off and we ended up in the playoffs only. Poyet failed at Leeds and left us for more money. No way should he be ever welcomed back and one of the few advantages of Bates in charge means that he wont be offered the chance!
Don't re-write history. He left because we were 3rd div team & Spurs came knocking. We had no chance of keeping him & if ever we had forced him to do so. He would have walked on us.
kebablegs i am of the opinion that poyet is fantastic manager and has proved so with brighton. Im still happy with grayson however
