Not quite the same in the stadium. There was at least one "The referee's a ****er." It was pretty loud, too.
I did think a couple of seasons ago that Michael Oliver was a very good referee and one of the best around. Not sure what has happened with him, because he’s most certainly not one of the best around these days. I thought last night he was bloody awful and it’s not the first time I’ve seen a poor performance from him recently. He seems to have lost his way. Unfortunately, we have another berk in charge on Sunday, none other than the clueless Mike Dean.
Here's one suggestion: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/apr/15/referee-pgmol-michael-oliver-abuse-condemns
Sorry to disagree but he treated us appallingly...hope he NEVER sets foot in the new WHL let alone plays for us. Great player but a complete ****...going on strike to join Chelsea was an utter disgrace...he missed the opening 4 matches that season and we failed to win them...we missed out on CL and he demanded a move cos he wanted CL football...crap way to treat us as fans and our club imho.
Also, wouldn't he be tempting fate by moving to a club where he's within a seven hour drive of the Spanish tax authorities HQ? Not that I'm suggesting he be bundled in a van on his way to training, which could be over the Swiss border within an hour before taking a route through Austria and Slovenia...
Agree on Moussa, it's between him and Son for me. Although saying that, I think too often I/ we overlook Kane just because we're so used to him scoring so much, hit the 20 goal mark last night, mental. Has to be in the conversation as well.
Yeah, it's terrible. We've got the world's best no 9 and my last 3 POTS will have been Big Vic, Super Jan and Moussa Sissoko. That can't be right?
Compare him to Michael Owen, one of the most famous English strikers of the last couple of decades. His highest ever total for a season was 28 in all competitions and he never scored 20 in the league in his career. It's ridiculous, really.
It's his economy of movement and effort. He doesn't rely on great pace or skill. He just consistently executes simple things well all the time: always in the right place, no nerves or fear, good technique, good reading of the game and awareness, decisive when the ball comes to him. This is what Shearer did. No great outstanding attribute, just consistently clinical in front of goal. There is no reason (injury aside) why he can't get 20+ goals every season for the next 8-10 years.
There's something deceptively efficient about the way that he plays, which is why you'll still hear from people who don't get it. He's capable of having an off day and still scoring repeatedly or single-handedly tearing a team apart. His goal variety is incredible, too. There's no standard Harry Kane goal, apart from the fact that he's scored again.
Someone (probably on here but I can't place who) said that he does everything very well or at least, 8 out of 10 and nothing badly. He's also not someone who goes in for 'the big I am', so he is part of the team, rather than ahead of them. I hate penalties in big games. I didn't look at a few in '84 when we won the UEFA Cup Final. I have nerves now when HK takes a penalty but In always watch. He's going to score, you just know it.
So a team with no motivation against a team with a load of injuries and a cup final at stake. My thoughts on selection are: Dier to play the role that Dele played in the last 2 games against them. i.e. mark Jorghino. I would play Nando on the basis that Chelsea didn't look comfortable against L'arse when they crossed balls into the box. With that theory I wouldn't start with Lamela, as he plays more to feet than crosses. And I doubt whether he and Moura can play 90 minutes. So when Moura (if fit ) has to be subbed, then bring on Lamela (or remember me ? GKN ) I would consider playing Tripps AND Aurier. Going forward Aurier can be a goal threat-he is a liability at defending. Gazza Tripps, Toby, Jan, Davies/Rose Winks, Dier Aurier,Eriksen, Moura Llorente.
Wanyama, Sissoko and Lucas supposedly back in training, whether that’s a suggestion they’re all fit to start, who knows but at least we have some players Think I’d go with: Gazza Toby, Dave, Jan KWP, Winks, Dier, Davies Lucas, Nando, Eriksen
Higuain did not sign before Wednesday's midday deadline and can not play in Thursday's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham. A report from the BBC
