Feb 07 2017 - "This (Rowett) is the standard we require,if we wish to take a step up the ladder, would he come, down to Mr L." No prizes for guessing who wrote that
He is another manager who reminds me of Warnock or even Gary Johnson in a way. He thrives at ‘underdog’ clubs, where he gets ‘lesser’ players to believe in themselves and installs an ‘us against the world’ mentality. Give him a large budget and some big egos to manage however and it all goes Pete Tonge. He won’t be out of work for long - he would do well at somewhere like Rotherham or even Bolton in my opinion - or perhaps a club in League 1.
In all fairness, he was shouting from the rafters more for Pardew and Pearson....but funny thing is, that was 2 years ago and still kneejerks after a defeat in the same way!! Question is, has any of those 3 managers done anything special since and would any of them had done a better job than LJ? I'm still happy, clapping!!!
As with all these types of debates, it’s impossible to say if any of those would have done better - because they were not given the chance. It could have gone either way - and we long-suffering City fans know which way it normally goes! There is no guaranteed success in football - and some managers strike gold occasionally before fading away again (Danny Wilson for example - not had a sniff of the Prem since Barnsley) For now let’s stick with what we’ve got. I do not enjoy the manager merry-go-round.
without repeating any of my previous comments, totally agree the manager merry go round seems to something in vented then orchestrated by foreign owners. eventually a manager falls into place with a group of players that have been put together by the outgoing and knowing he is likely to get a few months grace mould them into the way they play …. city went through 3 or more years of similar …. five pillars and all that but tried to do it in a rush. Jose is a 1 or 2 season wonder, seems to lose it after the second or third season …….. there is only 1 top, 1 bottom and a lot in between! Had gate money increased, just partly in line with transfer fee inflation % then a matchday ticket would likely cost £300! Most clubs nowadays are probably paying out 20% of their income on AGENTS and ex manager compensation payments , might even be more
