People don't appreciate that a title challenge is like 38 cup finals and not many teams have the chance for one. Last season was a one horse race, so fair enough everyone should be looking at the cups. The year before was a two horse race, but one of them was Spurs so it never really mattered. The season before that there were no challengers to Leicester. This is our first title challenge in 5 years, we currently have about 10 players out injured or sick after the festive fixture congestion, and we had the hardest draws in both the LC and FA Cup.
first team: Alisson, Trent, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Shaqiri, Firmino, Mané, Salah Bench of: Mignolet, Lovren, Henderson, Milner, Keita, Lallana, Sturridge Chamberlain to come back too. I think we all agree we are happy enough with that in general, bit can still be improved. We went even weaker than that last night. I don't think Klopp would ever throw a game, but clearly just send them put to do their best and see what happens
Let me just put some perspective on that. 2013/14 we lose in first round of league cup and 5th round fa cup. we finish 2nd. 2014/15 we reached to Cup semi finals and finished 6th and rodgers was clearly on way out. 2015/16 klopp reached 2 cup finals and lost in 4th round of fa cup... and finished 8th. 2016/17 Klopp reaches semi final of league cup and goes out in Fa cup 4th round. we finish 4th 2017/18 klopp loses losese first round in league cup and embaresses us in fa cup 3 times (inc replay) we finish 4th and have CL run. 2018/19, loses in both first rounds of cups... where will we finish So: Wheres the legendary moment enabled in the past 2 or 3 years? Losing in finals doesn't get remembered, neither was 2nd place. they are all failures and none stand out like 2005 or 2006. (admittedly 2012 league cup win and fa cup final defeat doesn't really stand out due to size of comp won) I'd content 2007 where we got cl football again and lost cl final is never remembered either I'm told 4th is the holy grail. oh we are in league cup i wish we were out of it cos it is costing us going for 4th... sound familiar? It should as thats the attitude in 2016/17. 2 years ago we lost to southampton in league cup semi final and took 1 point out of 12 in january and went out of cup. now 2 years on i'm hearing the same excuses made cos we might win the league. My point is he better damned well win it cos if we end up 2nd its another trophyless year. I'm sure some wise ass will point out that what we did acheive 2 years ago enabled a cup run to CL final the following year. ... but again thats forgotten as it was a disappointment. Finishing 4th or 2nd or being in finals doesn't make legends. It doesn't fulfill the ambition nor make careers. Winning things do. Our record under klopp has been one of improvement but at somepoint progress must be replaced by delivery or the cycle will go back down hill again. the EXACT same thing is levelled at spurs and pochettino. If we like to boast we are bigger than spurs then we've even less excuse than them for winning nothing. We got the real **** end of the cup draws this season. but we never really tried in either.
Sounds like you have a problem with your memory TBH I think the 2012/13 challenge and last season's CL run stand out very strong in LFC fans' memory as some of the most fun and memorable times in our recent history We laugh at Spurs not because they don't win but because the second they consider the possibility of even challenging they instantly #bottleit
Leicester are small time. I cannot accept throwing the cup as your comment admits klopp has done. He's only done it 3 times now. Clearly he is of the opinion it starts at a bad time in season.
Is that why you got the year wrong then? ouch credibility shot instantly. 2007.. what happened? the oh yeahhh athens i'd forgotten about that year 2013/14... who wants to rememebr gerrard falling over himself. That defines the entire year not 2nd place. I've not heard one perons saying jesus that was a great 11 games. I hope we do as well this year. EVER 2015/16 i don't hear anyone saying jesus remember when origi scored that hatrick to destroy saints... and the final we were SOO close. I don't hear anyone talking about dortmund game due to the final being lost LEts just compare to a couple legendary years 2005. would anyone talk about that goal by gerrrard for 3-1 in groups or the goal that was but mourinho denied v cheslea if not for the amazing final events. OR 1977. Why is the st etienne game just a legendary even in LFC folklore..... its was the quarter final in a first ever European cup! If it happened and we went out in the next round would it be talked about? I'll tell you why not. LFC first ever european final was when? if you have to google that then thats your answer (and some on here were at it im sure)
I don't remember anyone after the Dortmund game saying "don't bother celebrating this lads it won't mean anything if we lose the final" (perhaps you did?) If we won the FA cup but lost a couple of players to injury along the way and missed out on a title by a point imagine the whinge then
You put a lot of work into these posts, so I apologise that I don't have the patience or commitment to answer each point. So, a general reply: Surely you can "feel" that this season is the closest we have been for a very long time? We may have been on the brink of success in the Suarez season, but we were so reliant on him, whereas we now have greater potential throughout the team. What we have now would walk the league this season if it weren't for the presence of City. We have to remain focussed on the big prize and I believe it's now or never. Win it and we'll attract better players to continue to build, fail and we won't. Winning the FA Cup would have no influence whatsoever on bringing players in, there may be a nostalgic attachment to it amongst native fans and players but on the world stage domestic cups mean nothing. When I think of my life watching football, I don't go to a list of trophies won and stare at it - I remember great games, great players and great incidents. The most enjoyable time I've had as an LFC fan in recent years was watching the football in 13-14, and particularly Suarez, of course. That stands out in my memory even though we won nothing. You say 2nd means nothing, but it means many great memories to me - and they're more valuable than counting cups. It's the games that matter to me, not the lifting of trophies. I'm not saying they're irrelevant, but great football should eventually bring trophies anyway and I'm confident that if we continue in our current vein they will come - but I'm genuinely baffled by fans who think trophies are the raison d'etre of football.
Well if it's just trophies, most of the rest should just pack it up and go. Obviously at the pinnacle, it is about trophies. Do we really need reminding that we haven't even been on the same f#cking mountain, let alone near the pinnacle!! People need to give Klopp the time he needs to get to the top. Then judge him. If you think that he's already had enough time, then that's your opinion but I disagree. Klopp could have walked into a number of already established teams and be winning things. He didn't, he walks into a mess. Last post in this from me as it clearly comes down to opinions, and we all deserve one.
