I suppose in the last 20 minutes he just batters defenders who are tired, I imagine it's like bouncing off a wall. Makes Devon White look like Pele...
We signed Smith when Olly was in charge and the team were playing a different style. I will always support any player that pulls on the blue and white hooped shirt as long as they give 100%. Matt Smith has scored goals for us, and whilst his ability maybe questionable in Steeve's side, as long he offers something to the team he will have m support. In reference to Cousins.....when we signed him, he was flying for Charlton. he stepped up a level, and probably needed to build himself up a little bit. In his position I would imagine that confidence plays a part in his performances so maybe today's beating of two players and shooting might be a reminder to himself of the talent he possess We appear to be on the up. We have transfer restrictions imposed. We should get behind ALL the players regardless of whether they are first choice or reserve. Onwards and upwards
He doesn’t though. I get the theory but he quite often just does **** all. Think he’s a good option if we’re chasing a game and lumping it in the box or even as someone to clear crosses against a route one team like Boro but bringing him on to try and hold it up has never worked very well.
My exspectations have already exceeded so far this season & long may it continue, management & coaching been superb after 4 games, never seem to give in or collapse these days like before & great togetherness, as regards smith if we get an offer I think we should accept as he doesn’t seem suited to the way we play now.
Matt Smith is brought on as a defensive option imho. He is brought back for defending corners and free kicks and he wins a surprising number of balls from goal kicks....nodding on to runners. It is as though if we are trying to see out a game we play route 1 football, it seems to work though. I am surprised at how slow and ponderous he is compared to the rest of the team however he is definitely part of Steevee's plans even in this slightly peripheral way. Remember we are very light in the true striker division:- Wells, and after yesterday Oteh are great, Hemed is injured and Smith....not sure he will leave this window. He fills a purpose. Bidwell has been outstanding this season in a quiet way... yesterday he was outstanding in a loud and obvious way. Give him a new contract please Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
Like you, I see why Smith is brought on and I don't see him being sold (for 2p?) in the January window but, please, when his contract runs out, let's not renew it: we can do so much better.
I went yesterday and again delighted we won. We seem to be winning games we would have lost or drawn before... Maybe we are getting the luck that has deserted us over soooooo many years and at last the Rangers supporter is getting some joy on a regular basis. The game was good to watch end to end but we were the team who created the most chances and more direct with the pace up front. Great to see the youngsters get there chance and take it. Really good to see Hall playing and doing well (apart from one bad mistake)...it will be massive for us if he comes through a few more games as an injury or two now and I think we will be struggling. McLaren and his staff are doing an amazing job ...............................superb. A win or even draw next week will state a strong claim for play offs....U RRRRRS
Re Ingram and Smith...….I thought after the goal and nearly losing the ball Ingram did well especially after those two mistakes. Smith isn't Mclarens first choice and probably 4/5th and not starting yesterday says it all but he will do his best and who knows may come up with a goal or two before season ends.
There are a few central players who have contracts that go out end of this season and need renewal pretty quick before we lose them for nothing, Bidwell, Pav, Lynch among them if I remember right.
Went to the match with a Leeds friend and he thought we played well and were the better team. He was suprised Leeds didn't push on in the second half, I felt they seemed to be content with a draw. When Smith came on I was suprised how slow he was! Did not realise this last season and think we are much stronger up front now!
This is a good read and the first couple of paragraphs are hilarious ... Annti's Knee Jerks ... https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/49406
Not trying to jump ahead of myself or get carried away or anything but it's still possible that we could go to Wembley four times between now and the end of May.
