Get a grip guys... we’re friends on here Anyway back to the subject If we loose Charlie for say two games we will be left with Hotshot Long as Ings is always on the verge of injury, Gabbi is gone, Gallagher and Obafemi injured. Doesn’t fill me full of hope of scoring at least two or three goals a game
There’s suddenly a lot of hope being laid at the feet of a striker, who I can’t even recall his last PL appearance for us. He’s also spent two seasons on loan in the The Championship without really being a knock out. Striker is looking like an issue for us, if we’ve reached this point.
Agree, really want him to do well and may offer us something different to what we have had but nothing to suggest he will be the solution to our goalscoring problems. The kind of player to attack a JWP whipped in cross though.
After a long lay off so he is going to need weeks of training to get anywhere near match fitness and we still don’t know if he is up to EPL levels yet, I suspect he isn’t but still more likely to score than poor old Shane
His ‘brilliant’ finish.... that he stumbled over the keeper? To be clear, I’m not knocking the lad, I’m just reading more and more people laying hope at his feet, yet he’s done nothing to suggest he’s the answer. A level head and an ounze of common sense should make fans reel in a bit on this one. I’d rather Shane ahead of Sam. He may just knock someone over to get a chance for Armstrong, Redders or the new lad, McDonald.
Gallagher should be given a chance at least. Shane has been given plenty 2 goals in 58 from a striker. Absolutely pathetic
I agree about Shane, but you’re missing the point I’m making... all I am saying is that sitting back and reading, more and more fans on here are talking up Sam and building up hope and expectation. By all means give him a go, but this is a lad who has not “done it” at this level. He’s not shown himself to be strong at holding the ball up at this level, scoring at this level or being able to handle the best defenders. It’s bizarre the groundswell of hope that is building.
I’m not that sure fans are raising expectation or building him up mate. I think most people understand his past performances at this and Championship Level. However, until he has a chance we won’t know for sure. Long has had plenty and may well have a different role in the new setup, but Sam won’t do any worse and is likely to improve. **** me Harry Kane and even Rashford got their chance by luck. Maybe it will click now. I recall someone on here suggesting Boufal get a run of 6 games to see what he could do...
Why not? Would give a head to aim at with some decent crosses! He came to us at the wrong time for the wrong price and too many expectations
I stand by that about Boufal (Clearly had bags of talent) and I stand by my view on what I’m reading about Sam. For the record, let’s remove Long form this. I know I mentioned him in an earlier post, but that was about my third or fourth post on Sam. It’s not Sam v Long that I am taking about. I’m saying I am reading a few people now calling out for a player who hasn’t shown any signs of being able to be the answer at the level below, let alone in the premier league. I don’t see a player who has good acceleration to get in behind, or dominant in the air or great ability to hold the ball up. Let’s hope I haven’t got a clue and he rips the place up.
Wouldn't it be good if we could recall a player AND their goals scored. We could then look back on the games he missed and allocate the goals to a couple of games. I would allocate 3 to the City game, one to the Utd game and the other 1 to the Bournemouth away game. I know not the best use of the goals as wasted 3 on City (home), but those extra 8 points and would be good. I'll go to bed now.
I agree it’s not about Sam v Ling, and I also agree I don’t think Sam is good enough. But like Boufal last season, Sam should be given a chance if fit in place of Long, who in my opinion should be moved on. We won’t know for sure about Sam until then.
I agree about moving Long on (and his cousin Ling). The difference for me in giving Boufal games and Sam a chance, is that Boufal clearly had the talent and ability and showed flashes of that. Sam hasn’t. Regardless of my opinion, Ralph is the one to make that call, so if he gets the chance, let’s hope he is the new Rickie Lambert. In fact, we should get Rickie in to help/coach Sam.
Surely Long is one of our few players that has the speed to suit Ralph....use that speed but don't assume that he will be the one to put the ball in the net. One of our players (?) said recently that there may be players faster than Long in the EPL over a short distance, but Long just gets faster and faster as he runs. I'm sure Ralph would value him in some games at least.
