I only once kinda ghosted someone before ghosting was really a term.
First year in University I was dating this one girl... She had asked me out and gave me her number on a notecard (amusingly she also wrote what her major was in University on the card that seemed strange to me)
This was pre-texting as a normal mode of communication, I think I had a mobile phone but it was a pay by the minute deal, so I only used it in emergencies.
Anyhow, she lived about 15 minutes from me, but due to complicated local telephone logic that I won't get into, she was a long distance call for me... But I was considered local if she called me.
In other words it cost me 30cents a minute to call her (in state long distance used to cost more than out of state long distance back then because in state had the same phone Monopoly and wasn't policed)
I didn't mind calling her though and did, but eventually got a little irritated that she never once phoned me first... Especially since it would be free for her but cost me money.
She was always enthusiastic with dating me and would throw herself on me and cling to me on a date but she never called me. After about a month, I finally got annoyed with her and asked her why she wouldn't call me.
"My parents say it's the man's job to call the woman and it isn't right for a woman to call a man".
I told her that was ridiculous, we'd been going out for a month at that point and it was unfair to expect me to always call, especially given the circumstances.
I decided I wouldn't call her after that until she called me to make a point. Effectively ghosting her until she called. 2 weeks passed, she didn't call but I was working at the mall and another customer asked me out (that's how I met most of my dates in University and High School).
I figured two weeks gone, I'd never see the no-call girl again, so I accepted and I went out with the new girl the next night. It was that very next night on that date I happened to run into the girl I had previously been dating out on the town with her bestie... The look she gave me could have frozen a volcano.
I think she thought I had stopped calling because I met someone new, and not that I was trying to get her to call me for once.
I never did get to explain to her that I had waited for her because I wanted to prompt her to call me. I never actually ever broke up with her, or talked to her after telling her that I thought it only fair she calls me once in a while.
