A Rangers fan who bet £25 on the Gers scoring in the first 30 minutes of yesterday's Old Firm clash has been refused a winning payout despite the goal being timed at 29m 58s on screen. Apparently Bet 365 don't use the same clock as everyone else including the Press Association which publish the goal times that supply all news outlets. He was offered £175 of betting credits which is simply an invitation to give his winnings back to the betting company. Perhaps Denise Coates has overspent this Christmas...

That's pretty poor PR for a paltry amount.

Bit odd they’d use a different clock but not really their fault that customers don’t read the small print. Giving him credit seems a fair enough compromise as long as there’s no restriction on cashing it out should it lead to another winning bet.

If they were correct in stating it was not a winning bet they wouldn't offer the credits. It's a PR disaster for them as the publicity will cost them a lot of closed accounts. If I place a bet and it wins I expect the payout not bloody credits...

I'm sure that by their own published rules, they are correct, but, as you say, it's very poor PR. They should have made a big deal out of saying that they would pay out, even though it was strictly a losing bet. I got paid out by Paddy Power once on a bet that was most definitely a loser, but in bizarrely unlucky circumstances. I know it was on a Wales RU match, but I can't remember the exact circumstances, sadly. It probably cost them very little, but they would have got a lot of good PR out of announcing that they were paying out on losing bets, as well as the winners.

Not great PR from a company where the boss paid herself £265m last year.

It’s only in this era that literally everything is newsworthy and every **** goes to the press over every perceived injustice looking for compo that he got that. It was a losing bet, harsh as that is, and he wouldn’t have been moaning if their rules meant he’d won when it would have been a loser elsewhere. The guy has had a result.

BET365 were a good bookmakers. They used to give extra EW places, BOG and various other offers. Now they have stopped a lot of those offers. They have more or less closed my account now for over a year as I won a good few bob. I don't get BOG or any other offers, and if I want £20 on any bet it comes back and says I can have 50p. I have other accounts more or less closed as well. All they do is send you an email and you can't appeal it.

Bottom line with bookies is they don't like regular big winners. Years ago I knew a bloke who was banned from every bookie shop in Brixton due to some of his big wins on horses. He didn't win every time but enough to hurt them...
