Today, my team is having their first training session of the season, having only signed up last Thursday, we are kind of un-organized.

Now this wouldn't be a problem, but the first round of the county cup is on Sunday, and none of our team has played football for 3 months. Then our first league game is on the Wednesday after that.

We have also been entered into a harder league than we were meant to because of our late entry, which means we will be playing proper youth teams, whereas most of our squad smoke, and all drink.

As I said, wish me luck, I'll need it!

The team I was playing with were pish right enough so that made me feel good about myself. I was playing centre half and had to take corners because no one else had a decent delivery on them. Played the first 5 games of the season, scored our only 2 goals and had 5 assists from centre half. Just left last week though as most of the team were awful and I was sick paying 10quid a week to get humped every saturday!!!

How much is it to get in a proper sunday league?

Be quite expensive with buying strips, equipment, and paying travel.

The team that I joined were a new team just formed this summer. A local tiler paid for the kits and tracksuits etc in return for sponsorship. Travel and hire of pitch etc for us was around 10quid each a week.

This is so very true. And the delusion never ends! All you do is slowly work your way backwards till you're at centre back! I still turn out every year for charity matches and we also have a "Legends" match against the current team. I may have to reconsider this year after inexplicably falling over mid run this year with no one about! Eventually it was agreed that my brain was capable of operating a lot more quickly than my legs. I woke up to swollen knees and a stiff back and thought "why do I do this?"

Nevermind by next May I'll have convinced myself I'm Franco Baresi again.

For me it is £60 signing on fee + £3 per match, should work out at about £120. (Including the two cup games which I'm sure we'll lose in the first round)

Then I have to buy boots, astro's, socks, shin pads, shorts, training shirt.

    That all cost £180.

    So about £300 this year.

Had a kick about in the local park this summer with a few mates and some of our new neighbours when we all went down for a picnic.

After marking out the goal posts and selecting teams we set off for a 5 a side match with first to 5 wins.

After every goal we had to have a 5 minute break as we were shattered, our better halves were telling us to stop playing and reminding us that our youth was long distant.

I couldn't walk the next day due to sore knees and cramps and I was in goal.

Good luck! Playing again for my new team tonight. Been training since June and lost all of our pre-season friendlies against higher league opposition then won our first game of the season against a team that had 4 ex-academy players. Hopefully another win tonight and a clean sheet!

I played with the lads from work and massively, massively over-estimated my fitness levels. Ran flat out for about 15 mins and thought I was about to collapse.

How can you score your teams ONLY 2 goals and have 5 assists?

Easy now. Baresi is my favourite player of all time. I've never seen a better defender and leader. I tell you what I love about playing again though, those first few minutes when you run onto the pitch to warm up (I say warm up, I mean to blast balls at the poor keeper, that is reality when you get older!) You feel spritely and full of energy, and think to yourself "I'm up for this today" Its a far cry from 15 minutes in when your legs feel like lead and your heart is jumping out of chest! Haha. The number of mystery injuries suffered by our legends at 60mins was very strange I have to say. Talk about rats and a sinking ship!
