Right Saturday night, time for some festive party music... Here is an album that my older brother always used to whack on at this time of year, great memories...
Not been on this thread for ages. Haven't got a Christmas song I'm afraid. Instead the song that got St Mary's rocking at the final whistle on Sunday.
To celebrate the Winter Solstice and the return of the light here’s a bit of Icelandic folk rock from Ásgeir:
And here’s an English translation. The title of the English version, by the way, is “Was There Nothing”. https://lyricstranslate.com/en/hljóða-nótt-silent-night.html The silent night The silent night is all that was before, I had a fare but don't remember where, fled, gone, what is said and seen, the truth hurts if a lie follows along. Raises a sword and a shield. The poetic night is all that was before. Had a treasure box but don't remember where. Beaten with logs, demands prayers and requests. Broken promises make a faint sound. Both the hot and the cold ones. The good night is all that was before. Had gold but don't remember where. Where is the faith that goes on its feet. Father of the world, will you help me? Faith will gain power. The silent night is all that was before. Had treasures but not there. Fled, gone, what is said and seen. Some of it was good, but other things came with it. Raises a sword and a shield Some of it was good, but other things came with it. Raises a sword and a shield
Heard something on the radio, yesterday, that astounded me. Noddy Holder, apparently, is receiving £500k per annum, in royalties for Merry Christmas Everybody. That, if correct, is a very nice little earner.
And his son is playing the lead in “About A Boy” ..... or was that the son of the man who wrote “Santa’s Magic Sleigh”?
