We were going nowhere under Mick. We gave Hurst no time to get us anywhere and then made a stupid appointment. Mick left because he could see that there was no way forward. The only thing he is really guilty of is not walking a season earlier.
Mick can't get off Scott free, Westy. His ability to manage a substandard squad with limited players undoubtedly kept us in this league since 2012. However that skill limited the quality that came in. Why would Evan's release money for the 5 million pound striker when Mick can keep us in this league and better with less. It becomes habitual and means any new manager would have been left with a squad that is no less substandard than what Mick started with. Case in point is Bart. Recruited from the lower leagues, became an international standard keeper under Mick. Mick leaves and two separate managers have found it necessary to drop him. Hurst was, evidently, the wrong man to pick up the reins and start a more long term squad building approach. But we're not the only club to fall into the mire post Mick, that is why I have sympathy with the situation Hurst was in and won't attach 100 per cent of the blame to him.
Would people still be praising Mick if we had signed Lambert instead of Hurst pre season? Let's face it, Hurst's time here was an abomination, which maybe highlights Mick's good points. I had no issue with appointing Hurst...at least we tried a different route rather than be stuck in no man's land. I like to see people try, and Hurst did...unfortunately it didn't work out, and maybe enough damage was done to send us down...but u applaud him for his beliefs. I've no idea what my point is btw LOL
I think we all agreed Mick’s time was up, six years is a very good stint at a football club in this day and age. The decision to let Mick go was not incorrect, but the decision to replace him with Hurst was, unfortunately. Despite our experience with Hurst, I’m still not against bringing in a lower-league manager in the near or distant future. Hopefully this time we will do some due diligence on the manager’s character and support the new man with an experienced Director of Football and more clearly defined structure and philosophy in the club.
Mick survived as long as he did because he delivered on a shoestring, he ensured our survival in this division with one outstanding season thrown in and we all enjoyed that, but as good players left and were replaced with poor quality from very low leagues the task became harder to achieve so the football became boring and negative, Micks time was up and he knew it in fact I think he had enough without the fans hostility.
Westy you seem to be the lone voice still contending Mick's time wasn't up,so who's logic is skewed?!
If we get this Norwich cast off Marshall in on loan as reported then the club’s flame has been well and truly extinguished.
Given our budget I’d have had him to the end of time - However he was done the relationship was done. Just find it amusing he came in with us bottom, left us 12th.... but that’s all I need to say. Let’s hope Lambert can keep us up and build.
And I know numerous long term fans who stopped getting Season Tickets because they were fed up with the dreadful football and awful results against supposedly poorer opposition, that's all I need say.
For all we have achieved in our history and for a club that had Alf Ramsey, Bobby Robson, John Lyall, George Burley and even Joe Royle in the hot seat, this is as bizarre a statement as they come.
Well we can hardly have certain managers managing us now as they are no longer with us sadly!!! You do come out with some absolute ..... comical stuff! Please keep posting it's a joy to read your insight. Has me in pieces every week.
Suppose they prefer this seasons results. We're flying. OH Seeing as style of play was their issue - no problem there from me it was crap - I can only assume their all back at Portman Road on a regular basis??
It mustn be forgotten that this Club also employed Milburn, Duncan, Keane, Jewel, and Hurst, compared to that lot I would prefer Laurel and Hardy let alone Mick.
Ahhhh but Hurst and Keane needed more time FieldMarshall! They were building, we were going places under both Hampy would have you believe. Both were doing a great job.
Stop patronising me - you've been told about this before, and I'm not putting up with your absolute guff this season. Had quite enough of it the past six years you talking absolute rubbish and this season onwards your nonsense is not going to be tolerated. I'm sorry we managed to win Saturday which upset you - hopefully the result will be more to your taste v Sheff Utd. You're really getting beyond boring - sort yourself out, it's really getting beyond embarrassing.
Oh I see, if I didn't know better I would say that's total bollocks but we mustnt say that, we were certainly going places alright with both of those clowns and it took Mick to save us when he came in, Hurst needs no explanation, and " Jimmy Jewel " ( Google him Westy ) was fantastic when we lost 7 - 1 at Peterborough and oh how we laughed all the way home.
The only manager who has been given any time to build anything was McCarthy, and he failed to do that in five years. Whatever we had done over that five or six years - stuck with Keane, got Noel Edmonds in, it couldn't have worked out worse for the long term future of the club than it has.
