The ref's definitely on a win bonus from Everton.

The ref heard they'd be on Merseyside so assumed the usual rules applied...

That's some 5 mins for Everton, concede 2, get a pen, miss a pen

Watford threw that away by chasing the third goal. They g]had that game won but were far too loose with possession and positioning. Still, it made a decent watch.

There've been a few games recently where we've got 2-0 or 3-0 up and not chased 4 or 5. We're not great at it but with limited resources, playing within our capabilities is a good quality to have.

That's what screwed us against Juve last season: with half an hour to go we were 3-2 up on aggregate and had a couple of away goals to fall back on so should have been looking to finish the job on the break, but instead we were looking to make it 4-2 and got picked off

Can you imagine the outcry if Liverpool go out tonight because even one of the very many decisions that have gone in their favour this season goes against them?

Also been hearing the "getting the excuses in early" which is if they go into the Europa League, playing Thu/Sun will be against them in terms of their PL challenge. Of course when we were doing that there was no excuses and we were just whingeing. Also they would be always catching up, which apparently wasn't a factor when we played three Mondays in a row.

If we had sat back and conceded there would be those who said that we lost because we were too negative.

Gary Neville's been at it again. This time he's been suggesting that Everton have the chance to take Tottenham's place in .The Big 5' (sorry, United!).

"Depends what you mean by breaking it. Can they sustain it over many, many years, if you think about where the top six are at, at the moment, you could target Tottenham. Think about the fact that Tottenham are obviously, they’re spending on the team in the last couple of years has been less but the team is fantastic."

“What will happen there in the next few years when they move into the new stadium? Will that give them more spending power or will that mean they have to curb their spending? Very difficult for Everton to break the spending of the other teams even though I think they have net spend £145m in the last couple of seasons.

“What I would say is there is a massive improvement in the nature of their team. We know what David Moyes did there many years ago but there has been a big transition in these last two or three years. You’re now watching an Everton team that actually I think you like again. There’s an energy to them, there’s a mobility to them: Richarlison, Bernard, they all look like they have bags of energy, loads of talent, it’s a different time of Everton. Historically they’ve been quite rigid in their play, this feels a little more off the lines.

“I think Tottenham have recruited brilliantly over the last few years, I think it is about recruitment. If Tottenham were to lose two or three players and Everton were to continue what they do now, you could see that transfer of positions. They’re the only one I can see that are in their sights long term. Not now because I think Tottenham are a great side at the moment.”

That's very good, Gary. All very well considered and all that...but what's that big structure that Everton are planning to build in the docks in Liverpool? Yes Gary, it's a stadium and unlike most things in Scouseland, it's going to have to be paid for, because Birmingham won the Commonwealth Games...and unlike Spurs, Everton haven't paid for half of it already and don't make a profit, other than when selling their best players.

So, it's back to the drawing board, mate...

The roadmap is clear on this. Must build an on-pitch resource that can :

    1. firstly fight for a top 4 place while being in the EL up to the business end

    2. then remain in the top 4 when eventually getting there

    3. get regularly involved in PL title fights and/or the CL business end

    4. regularly win at least one of the prizes in 3

    Spurs are at step 3.
Everton have not even reached step 1 in the past two decades.

It's Merseyside v Manchester this weekend isn't it? Ideally Everton to draw with City because after their defeat to Chelsea and a midweek CL match it's possible and Utd to draw with Liverpool. Three points for us against Burnley will put us well in the mix up there.

Before last night I thought that it was Spurs who needed the Great Escape, not Manure. Will he partner Marcus Rockford?
