Well, hadn't we been told by Brexiteers that if we wanted to stay, the EU would make us rejoin on much worse terms, join the Euro, Schengen etc (you know, project fear)? The ECJ has confirmed that none of this is true, and that we could stay in on exactly the same terms as we now enjoy. I'd say that it was important that this was made clear before MPs vote on May's deal. Of course the timing was deliberate, the vote's tomorrow - or it was going to be.

    The UK is imploding unnecessarily.

This is a negotiation that can be "won". As with all succesful negotiations it's about the timing and how commited the parties portray themselves to winning.
Europe is not in a good place - the "traditional" stalwarts are all struglling bigly. On top of this we have deep uncertainty in the World economy full stop.
The next years are going to be tough regarless - austerity was a clusterfuck for the UK and needs to be addressed.
The UK is still the 5th largest economy - yes DT, they love to shop!!!

Col's rhetoric, although crass and crude will work, tell them to **** off. We have a BATNA (Best Aternative To A Negotiated Agreement) it's called WTO terms, it works equally badly/well for both sides. You will need to understand once and for all that you cannot have your cake and eat it, there will be losses.
It will not take 50 years for the benefits to come in, it normally takes 5-7 years based on economic cycles, so Stroller, **** off with your pessimism - it will also be interesting for you to have something to talk about!!

The EU as an organisation needs to be overhauled, do this for Europe. You've voted for this, now go for it. Get out of Europe, the World will see that the UK will not fall over and will want to have a more solid platform with you in the very near future

You and your politicians (who never had a clue in the first place) have lost sight of the prize.
I don't like the UK being made mugs of by any countries, let alone **** hole racist ****ed up countries like Rumania, Hungary and the like. But the previso is this, are you prepared to do the **** jobs? are you prepared to have Ford instead of Merc? Are you prepared to not have BOGOF at Tesco?
Are you prepared that your house value goes to where it should be?

You're going to get the worst of both worlds with the road you're going down - either, all in or all out, once you've proved you can survive, then you have the position to dictate. Oh, unlikely as you have such ****s living off Gambling, Energy and Banking companies in power.

    Good luck to all.

    I think you'll find that the 50 years was a Rees-Mogg estimate.

Stroller, the EU is ****ting themselves.
Can you not see the state that it is in right now?
    Unrest ALL OVER the place.
20-25% of Europeans are with the UK.
Anyone that doesn't accept that the EU needs a radical overhaul is an Ostrich.
Go ask the most liberal of Swedes what they think of the EU
Go ask the Spaniards without a job what thye think of the EU
Go ask the Danes who are banned from giving their kids a pork meatball in their lunchbox what they think of the EU
Go ask the French who have **** all what they think of the EU.

It's in the timing - think of that kid that washed up on a Greek Island that turned sentiment and policy - it doesn't take much.
This is the time - can the UK press home the initiative or even find it?

Any Economists/politician, that quotes a 50 year forecast, is talking complete and utter horse poo
Not to mention unified tax rules !!

Can you imagine Greece, Romania, Italy surviving under German tax rules ??

The EU political project will implode, it is not a viable project, on any measure.

Now Ellers, of all the things that the EU is ****ed up on - an EU army is not one of them.
Interested why you're so hung up on this one.
Especially with how things stand with Russia and the US at the moment.

Yes, the EU does need an overhaul, but we can't change it from outside it. If we'd taken part, rather the sitting on the sidelines moaning and electing ****s like Farage to the EU parliament, bent on wrecking it, it might have been done already.

    Doesn't need to.
Just needs to be nuanced. You're quite right that we cannot all go out to the same restaurants constantly as we all have different budgets and incomes.
That has been the downfall, ideological desires took over pragmatic approaches.
There was a nobility to the project, just a lack of realism in what could be done and in what timeframes.

Not to mention as someone said today in that the top four EU countries have problems especially with leaders.
Germany- Merkel is going and far-right growing
Italy - 5 star and reforms could kill the Euro
France - Macron the worst leader in French history. fires/riots rise of Le pen
    UK - May Brexit

No one has been able to change it from the inside - countries have just bypassed laws to suit them and pay the fines.
The UK has always played by Queensbury rules - there in lies one of the major problems for the UK.
+ ****s like Cameron, Blair and the like.

Once again you are talking rubbish. There are 73 MEP's from the UK and they are not all from UkIP. Truth is, what you fail to mention or ever try to respond to, is that you can't change the rules from within. We have tried to implement 17 bills and all were rejected. That's one of the reasons why people want out.
Take your Euro tinted glasses off for a minute and read the news from Italy/Demark/Swizterland and many other countries who are arguing to no avail against the box-ticking EU.
People make me laugh and say Brexitiers didn't know what they voted for , I would say the remain are less informed.

I would say, the remainers want big government to protect and pay for everything.

Like the socialist core of Germany/France.

    The ideology is flawed.

Which is why the majority of politicians voted for remain

You ask a remainer what they like about the EU and they come out with the same generic answers.
After everything that has happened with the EU in the last 2 years I haven't seen one remainer on here saying "that's wrong" or "I don't like the way they treat..". They just accept whatever the EU tells them...Bah.

    **** loads Stan.
Let's just say we're preparing to "get round" certain "difficult" aspects.
The only major change is in our agreements not being under UK law which was always the preffered juristiction for shipping.
Must say that Lloyds Register has played a blinder over the past two years and become extremely proactive, not their previous MO.
There will be some additional taxes to pay for sure, but this will and can be offset by more favourable currency terms - I'm sure Oslo will have convulsions on reading that!
For exporting out of the UK we are developing the same process as we have done in Norway for many years and quite simple - we are creating companies able to handle and be classed as bonded within the UK. Thereafter we can transport to our vessels all over, to be frank, I've never been convinced that the Norway system has provided them any real benefit.
Have over the past year unashamedly availed ourselves of the deep uncertainty amongst British companies - but as with the markets, this has now been factored in and a more normal playing field is playing out.
Sorry for seeming to be more in the know than I am, but the mood now at Global conferences is very different to what it was a year and a half ago, at least in Shipping. Executives are more concerned with development and new business whatever the cost and from wherever.

Stay well and good news with your son and his friend - put everything into perspective.
The Whisky Belt is still calling you!!
