It was very good but if you couldn't see the light display because everyone was walking on top of it what was the point ? Would have been far more effective if people were kept to both sides of the street leaving the middle bit for the light to shine onto and therefore see.
Suppose Parliament Street was a victim of its own success because if only half a dozen had been there it would have been stunning but last night about 7.00 pm there must have been a couple of thousand people down there.

Yeah it's better after 9pm when it's more quiet.
I'm gonna go later and see the 3 D projected on Trinity Church

What a ****ing disgrace some people in this City are. I've just walked through the town centre, not many people about and as it was raining like many head down, looked at the paved area along Jameson Street, Covered in gum!! Have we no respect for this city.? There are bins everywhere. !!!
If the council had kept on top of the chewing gum, they could clear it in hours. As it is, I suspect it would take days upon days to clear it. Of course, that could have a street warden who dishes out on the spot fines but that would never happen.

Its sad.... a pathetic few ruin it for others...

Who would be this street warden? even the real police are getting attacked in the street whilst doing their job, the public just stand filming it to post on social media.

Sad to say but the country's ****ed.

Whilst I agree that people dropping chewing gum are ****s, specifically after the money spent on upgrading the pathways and pavements, the council's funding is diminishing ergo employing people round-the-clock to specifically tackle dropped chewing gum (accross the city centre) isn't going to happen.

I fully appreciate the council can't fund it... won't fund it.... but more to the point, can they be bothered? They've had the money for CoC.

And Balkan.,.. you're bang on also..!!

Correct, they can't be arsed mate. They just lounge around all day literally coining it from the constant stream of CoC cash which they've now had to start stuffing into mattresses and old Ovaltine tins cos there's literally ****ing no end to it.

If only they could be arsed, we could probably all live in some sort of utopia and fly around on jet-pacs instead of using cars or buses too.

Gum on pavements isn't just a Hull problem though is it.

Go to any town or city and it's the same.

Rotterdam is the worst I've seen.

I don't think it's a problem anywhere tbh. If that's the worst eyesore you see, the rest must be pretty decent.

Never saw any in Venice, but then again their drains are ****ed.

See I disgrace, go to Vancouver in Canada you won't see any chewing gum on any street. The place is beautifully clean as are most of the towns in Canada.

Use simple Market forced to stop. On the spot £200 fine would soon have pieple stop doing it. Catch 10 people a day you have paid for a few wardens there, in no time it will be stopped. If it doesn't work double the fine. Admittedly that's quite a simplistic view!

Rotterdam must have altered since last time I went as it was spick and span compared to the average British city.

Issue the street wardens with guns. Or if that is too much tasers. The sight of some **** who has just dropped some gum writhing about in agony would soon deter others.
