Nothing more to say other than that this will force us into action in the Jan transfer window. Gutted.

Gutted for Holding. He'd just about made that starting position his own, really feel for the lad.

Anyway, silver lining is that we'll definitely be in for a CB in January.

    Yeah thats what I thought.

Time frame of an ACL injury is hard to predict anything from 4-18 months. Around a year is common though. He's still young so could be sooner.
Also depends on wether the ACL was fully torn and replaced or wether they repaired a damaged ligament.

Knees are annoying like that. Not alot of blood flow so take a long time to heal.

Today's win against Huddersfield certainly didn't help our cause.

Sokratis got his 5th booking, which means he's going to miss the Southampton game.
Mustafi was also booked for the 5th time this season, which means he will also miss the Southampton game. However, he got subbed off with a hamstring injury, so he could be out for a few weeks.
BBC reported Lichtsteiner also got his 5th league booking, which means he could be missing the Southampton match too. But I've not seen anywhere else mention it, and Emery said he could still be in contention to start in that game. Bit of a confusing one.

Either way, we're down to the bare bones in defence.

Koscielny and Monreal are back, so one can only assume they will be featuring at centre-half for the Southampton game. With Pleugzuelo still injured and Mavrapanos not back in training until later this month, it really doesn't bode well for us. We may have to put Elneny there as a stop gap.

I hope we consider getting a centre-half in January, even if it's on a short-term loan deal.

Did either of Kos or Monreal feature today ? It's going to be a big ask throwing Kos back in for 90 mins after he's been out for so long.

The prospect of having a 32-year old Monreal, 33-year old Koscielny and 34-year old Lichtsteiner in central defence doesn't exactly fill me with ample confidence!

Monreal 5'9 and too lightweight, he's game but just lacks the physicality for the position. Lichsteiner as you say is 34 and is an 'attacking fullback'.

Kos on the other hand.. it all depends on how well he has recovered from the injury and what his fitness is like. 33 is'nt actually that old for a CB.

Hopefully Mavropanos gets back to 100% quickly.

Man do we need to sign a quality CB this January though.

Why does this **** only happen to us and of all people to our english prospects?

Wilshere,Ox and now we are robbed of holding.
