Right at the end of the interview he appeared to be saying that the club want to get back to developing and improving players in order to sell them. This is the way we can finance the club...the more recent attempt to try and hold onto players by giving them long contracts certainly came back to bite us. I suppose it comes down to the fact that we don't have the finances of other clubs....the selling system can work if you have a continuous conveyor belt of players and don't sell them all at the same time. And you need a playing and training system where players have a chance to improve and shine....and we haven't had that for a couple of years.
We’ve hit the reset button, but although the wheels fell off, their was plenty right with the strategy. The obvious problem(should we be lucky enough to be nearer the top of the table again) is balancing that financial realism with the ambitions of managers/players & supporters and the differing directions they point in.
There is nothing wrong with keeping your best players, if you can. The problems really arose when we sold the best ones and handed big contracts to the average members of the squad on the basis that "they want to be here" (because they were not wanted by top six teams). Add in our miserable recruitment and you have a recipe for a really bad, and rather expensive, team.
The recent attitude from our managers is to take collective responsibility, but think there will be a change here (though not in public hopefully). If you can't cope, you will be helped, but if you prove unsuitable or don't make the effort, you are out. Some serious weeding is going to happen....exciting or concerning for the players (depending on their personality). Could be a chance for some youngsters if they keep fit, work hard and are flexible. https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/1...ger-ralph-hasenhuttls-first-press-conference/ The Echo's report on the press conference....a bit at the end is obviously from the written press's section. Says there will be video sessions which will blow the players' minds. He wants them to talk about the training sessions before, during and after....and come to him if they have questions.
Just to remind you all the two threads have been merged into one........Saves having two conversations about one topic......as requested by DTLW.
We all had an opinion, please notice the past tense. We move on as I thought I made pretty clear. Cardiff we all hope is the start of a new era and that is now what we are supporting, whatever we thought in the past. Hope that clears up any misunderstanding!
Oh jeez qwerty.... we can drag this back up again of this fella gets it right. I’m right with you! #stubbornasamule
Exactly. It's a double whammy because not only are you signing mediocre players when you could possibly do better, but you're bidding against yourself and overpaying them. They "want to be here" because this is the best contract they can get. So why give them more money? Long was already here, with two years on his contract. Which is a long as anyone would want. No one was going to offer him a ton of money and if they did, no big loss. Why were we trying to lock down his age 33 year? Steven Davis, same thing. Almost everyone posting here was quite happy about those contracts at the time, though.
Nice biography in the Telegraph. A man of many parts, and he’ll need to find a residence big enough for his Bluther grand piano. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...ttl-piano-loving-cyclist-survived-near-death/
