We are perfectly capable of beating Cardiff or similar clubs below the top 6 on our day....we just haven't had our day recently. Just a small improvement in confidence and organisation could earn us some points, but we can't expect miracles coming into a busy time like Christmas. Just how many actual training sessions will Ralph get over the next few weeks...when there are many games followed by recovery sessions.
Yep, that’ll be the first task. I honestly believe he’ll get them to *think* themselves lucky too (if you know what I mean). Stuff will start happening for us now.
Just think that it was only 4 weeks ago today that Reed and Hunter were sacked and before that we were really on a road to nowhere, Sparky did his best but he is not the future of football. What we have now is real hope for the first time since 2015/16 and I suspect that there may still be a couple of suprises at board level yet to come. I'm waiting with interest to see how RH utilises the younger players particularly.
Being an international is a rather low bar these days, though, because the relative talent level of the PL has risen quite a bit compared to where it was 15 or 20 years ago (for financial reasons, mainly). Stoke's defense last year consisted of players capped by England, France, Holland, Austria and the US. They also surrendered roughly all the goals, and were genuinely awful.
I think the team need stirring up....and I don't mean just switching players around or signing new ones. They may have got too comfortable....not with the results obviously...but by just turning up and going through the same thing, producing the same result. We have been much fitter and faster under previous managers....an iron hand in an iron glove needed. Most players will respond positively I'm sure if they can see results...going to be tough initially and someone like Austin may be unable to join in for physical reasons. Do we remember how unfit Rickie was initially...but he was then turned into a whippet.
He said he favoured 4-4-2, but was flexible. He's certainly getting a lot of coverage in the media...partly due to being appointed in a quiet spell for news, but also because of the interest he has produced by giving the press a few quotes I like the way he doesn't make false promises, whilst also providing hope. He said that Saints would look a different side by the end of the season, though he couldn't say what effect it would have on points/league position. He thinks he did well for the talent he had in his playing days, but he favours lots of running now because he was a striker who could score but hated running. A case of do what I say rather than do what I do.
True dat When it comes to Saints “interested” isn’t a strong enough word. When I took her to the Spurs FA Cup game 15? Years ago I created a monster Other football? Not so much
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/fa_cup/2607231.stm Happy days And no, nothing gets her down for long. She’s bullet-proof
I would imagine the 'white board' classrooms will be intensive over the coming weeks. Sure up the gaps in the back four and get rid of that awful zonal system.. Just out of interest, how many penalties have we conceded this season?
I think one of the most important things Ralph has said is that we have too many players for the same positions. Those who don’t want to be moved on should automatically find a bit extra to give, hopefully improving the team performance. Those that don’t will be moved on.
Lawro has us down for a 2-1 loss New Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl was in the stands to see his new side get comprehensively beaten by Tottenham on Wednesday night, and it will be interesting to see what team he picks after spending so little time with his players. Hasenhuttl will get a reaction, because suddenly everyone is playing for their place now Mark Hughes has left. But I don't think he will know too much about Cardiff, and I am pretty sure he won't have crossed paths with Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock before. So this is a case of 'welcome to the Premier League' for Hasenhuttl and this is going to be a tough test for him. Cardiff have won three of their last four home games, and I can see them getting another victory here.
Can't believe that was 15 years ago. And I didn't know that was the first FA Cup tie at St Marys. One of the best ever atmospheres I can remember there.
Think Gabbi & Redmond will be key. If he gets them to his much loved 4-2-2-2 then Redders will be his Forsberg, playing in Gabs. I just hope we don't do our usual trick of missing sitters and dumping pressure on the defence.
