I think people saw Hughes as a chance for some stability. He had such a short amount of time to make a difference last season and he did enough to keep us up, *with a big thanks to Swansea. That the new signings we made have made little to no impact hasn’t helped matters. But his record this season and his lack of defensive coaching meant he had to go. Doesn’t necessarily mean people were wrong to hope he could bring stability for a season or two whilst we start to rebuild. Sadly it didn’t work out that way. But this new chap seems a whole new kettle of fish. He’s not just for stability, but *fingers crossed* to help us build ourselves back up with a fresh new image and new ambitions.

All this glee on here, personally never heard of this guy and he will still have the same bunch of defenders to work with for over the next month at least so im not expecting much different myself. Hope he turns out well for Saints BUT i will be surprised ( and happy ! ) if he keeps us afloat in the Prem. If he is any good then can anybody see him staying here longer than MP1 or RK did when the bigger clubs come calling ?

Our loanees may be on season-long loans...in fact, probably are. We wanted them off the wage bill (though we may be subsidising them). Be interesting what happens in the summer when they become available again.

 

We've very done well to get him, a lot of Bundesliga fans thought he'd be very high on Bayerns list if/when Kovac gets sacked. This is the first time since Koeman left that I've felt like the club is on the right track, hopefully we can bring a couple of players in this January and have a proper rebuild under Ralph in the summer.

Absolutely. This comes across as a brilliant decision (at last!); one which I would like to think every Saints fans could get behind. But we still need to strengthen the squad.

 

Keeping Hughes would have negated the sacking of Reed. It looks like we've pulled of a pretty sweet mid-season repair job.

 

Not if Pellegrino is the manager, nor watching us recently !
