I think I still have some if his mixes round in my Ma's house. I remember listening to Loftgroover a few years back and it was awful, double beats, really annoying sfx and dicky MCing. You sound like my old man. He used to say that listening to that music was like working in a machine shop. He also shares a similar opinion towards hip-hop, "that's not music, that's just some fella talking."
I agree with Gambol - it's someone putting on a few records FFS. Why would you pay good money to go and see that when you can pay to watch a live band or simply spend the money on something just as worthwhile - a nice pair of trousers or a comfortable cardigan for example.
It takes as long to be this good at 'putting on a few records' as it does to be good at playing a musical instrument.
It's not just putting records on though, it's not the school disco. Some DJs are very talented and yes it takes a lot of skill to do what they do.
Aye, it's precision work taking a record oot it's sleeve and lining up that pessky wee needle on the exact track.
I play the guitar and I learned to mix when I shared a flat with two DJs I found mixing MUCH harder You can set your own tempo when playing analogue instruments (even in a band).
