Steed has always been one of our favourites, in a house full of Spurs fans. Wishing you well and your son a speedy recovery and thanks for all the fond memories.
STEED Malbranque has revealed the reason he has decided to retire early from football is to look after his four-year-old son, who has been diagnosed with cancer. No-one deserves have their child with such a terrible illness, I wish him luck & pray for him & his family

None of it's true ... he doesn't even have a son. This would be funny except for the geniune outpouring of concern and sadness from football fans for Steed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14797761.stm
Steed Malbranque's British spokesman has said that this story is untrue. He has said that Steed does not have a son and all of his family are well. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14797761.stm
Not clear to me if he actually retired, albeit for very different reasons. The quotes didn't actually say the retiring bit was untrue?
Well, I'm delighted that this isn't true. Leaving aside our disbelief that someone would start a rumour like this, it's good news that there isn't a boy somewhere diagnosed with cancer (well, obviously, there are many boys with cancer, but you know what I mean) and it's good news that a player who is held in such warmth by fans of several clubs is able to continue his career. I felt what I felt for Steed Malbranque regardless of this cancer story, and I still wish him all good and nothing bad.
What with this and the email that Garry Cook 'never sent' mocking one of his own player's mother who has Cancer - there are some very cruel minded people out there.
I don't think he ever mocked it. Someone emailed him about the woman being 'ravaged with cancer' and he expressed surprise at the way the phrase was used. I think its the sun inventing a scandal because they know everyone loves to hate Gary Cook and Man City.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...quit-decision-but-denies-rumours-2350018.html So, confirmation that (1) he is retiring, and (2) it has nothing to do with health problems, either his or any member of his family. Dunno why he's retiring just a couple of weeks after joining a new club though. The statement from St. Ettiene sounds like they're fine with the decision. All very odd, even without the sick rumour-mongering.
Yeh when i was first reading this i went from sympathy to anger from what the media can put without doing any research, how can a editor run the story and not get any facts like hes doesnt have a son? Good luck Steed in all you do,
