Don't let's forget the Peter Taylor haters. Two successive promos but still got called all the ****s - this after 19 promotionless seasons
By the time Brown left he had completely run out of ideas. We were thankful for what he did but there was nothing positive coming from himself or his team. Bruce was a bit different and had been indulged in the champ with an expensive squad. They underachieved in a poor division. The play off win masked the losing of faith by the Allams.
Taylor, Brown and Bruce were all very successful for the club and should rightly be praised. That said pretty much every manager has a shelf life at a club and a level. Taylor - thought he was better than us, found out he wasn't, we were his level Brown - great for motivation and spirit, was undone at the highest level Bruce - cracking manager, built good teams and played some decent stuff. The season with Ben Arta, ramirez ect we should have been mid table. Bruce problem was no plan B. All should be lauded by the club and supporters alike. For my money Adkins is doing a good job with what he has been given. Will be interesting in what he could do with a full, competitive squad
I'd add Nigel Pearson who's astute managing of an empty purse was admirable - he paved he way for Brucie's success
Yes the way we paid Robert Korean two shillings and sixpence was amazing and the two forwards we brought in the January for over a million quid each. Yes a shoestring My arse,
Always liked Brian Horton. One of the relatively small group of managers who have been in charge for over 1,000 games. Only relegated twice in over 20 seasons managing mainly struggling clubs. Though one thing always puzzled me. City were playing a preseason friendly in Brid and were losing at half time.Walking past the dressing room at half time you could hear him giving the players a right rollocking. Suddenly he shouted "What's going on out there? It's like the ****ing QE2!".
Should we open a new thread on which ship he meant. I will start the ball rolling with Marie Celeste.
That was my first thought, but then did he mean they were all passengers enjoying the weather and free bar?
I am trying to recall if the QE2 had a breakdown around that time and had been drifting about aimlessly, as the players certainly were in that first half.
Don’t take an awful lot of working out, see augustatigers post #14934. It doesn’t matter what decade you’re in if you have a brainfart. Just my guess though.
No ships involved here Brian had been ****ing QEII, how else would he know what she was like? Slow, laboured & out of condition obvs. Could have done with Nige’s help on the warm up.
