option B for me. i remember when city got Frazier Campbell in on loan and all the doom and gloom merchants were out in force especially after his debut @ Watford. Next game at home V. Barnsley FC grabbed a brace and the rest is history. I think that if the service is there then both Fryatt and Waghorn will work in between 2 fast wingers. Waghorn has pace from what i have seen of him so give him a try. Rooney and Welbeck work when the service is there so why not Fryatt and Waghorn ? Get the balls into the box hard and low. Pass and move and drag the defenders around for best results. Waghorn will join City this week buzzing after his U21 exploits so i do expect him to grab at least 6 by Jan. But unless there are injuries i would start with the same 11 as last time out for Peterborough. At least NP has many options still.
A good thread and for me a "B". I just hope we don't make the same mistake we did with Simpson. After struggling for quite some time (26 games as I recall) and having shown a great deal of patience he finally got it together and was scoring fairly regularly. At this time we purchased Fryatt and McLean and in order to play the new boys Simpson was dropped just, in my opinion, at the wrong time. Simpson was clearly a confidence player and I hope we give Waghorn a proper chance. I note the deal is until January, which I expect to be extended but will it become permenant?
Permanent deal will be dependant on so many factors; therefore we will not know until January! Even then we may just bid for a loan til the end of season (if Waggy performs, cannot see us trying to extend his loan if he doesn't produce the goods) I'm option B by the way
So far that's 3 people say A (Disagree with NP's decision to sign him.) 17 people say B (Agree with NP's decision to sign him) and 4people seem to be saying C (Don't know.) That's about a 71% approval factor and 12.5% against which for me means that if Waghorn turns out to be rubbish only 3 people can justifiably criticise NP for signing him. Alternatively if he turns out to be a success I hope those 3 will have the good grace to admit that NP was right.
Leaning towards B but I'll have to go with C. Not seen enough of him at a competent level (ie other than U21s) to say how good a signing he will be. I'd like to say in NP I trust, but after the departure of Simmo..
"NP believes he can do a job for us" now that really covers a multitude of sins (vis a vis Simpson and McClean who are less than a roaring success). He is quoted as saying that about several of his purchases .On that broad statement basis I can't see him having the effect Frazier Campbell had (who by the way Bruce rated more highly) so I would at this stage have to vote for a "C"
there may have been some wringing of hands about Campbell but the Watford performance got good reviews from others. From the HCSS Watford match report: "With Fraizer such a recent signing that he wasn’t even listed on the back of the matchday programme, the opposition may have been slightly surprised to be facing a skilful, quick, hard-working youngster, whose first outing for City showed considerable promise."
Ok at the risk of getting splinters in my arse, I`l have to go for C, the lad obvioulsy has talent, but will he do a job for us ? Given that Matty FRYATT is probably a replica of WAGHORN, I`m not sure young WAGGY will be able to change our firtunes unless the supply line gets better. A striker is only as good as the service he gets, and although Matty hasn`t set the world alight at the moment, we all know what he is capable of. I still think we`re short of the player required to help both Waggy and Matty produce the goods and that is someone in the form of Steve HOWARD, and I`m afraid ADEBOLLA isn`t the answer.
Just to add, those people quoting Frazier CAMPBELL, don`t forget he had Deano playing alongside him, who created an awful lot of opportunities for him
Yer, Campbell had Deano. Now I'm not comparing Fryatt to Deano, but he's a similar type of forward. His brain is quicker than his legs, sure he will set up a few goals for Waghorn.
I am in (c) as not seen him play. I agree with getting him on loan and have everything crossed that things work out well. With a striker in particular, I think it is a good idea testing the player on loan first. After McLean I suspect the Allams may be looking to be convinced rather take NP judgement for granted
I'm changing my mind. Option D - Stephen Hunt. He'll have a good a debut, may even score, then he'll be consistently average after that, but he'll be able to do no wrong.
Give it a rest. How do players like Jimmy Bullard, Tony Warner and Delroy Facey, who did nff all, get your admiration? While players like Stephen Hunt get criticised? You're talking about someone who played well for a distinctly average team, and who is now playing in one of the best leagues in the world (spot the odd one out i might add).
I think he has scored again for the U21's again tonight UTT http://www.flashscores.co.uk/detail/v7YgPIte/?of=uk#summary
What a load of cobblers.. did it escape your notice that as soon as Hunt got injured our relegation fight was as good as dead? He was also awarded player of the year for that season. Plus the guy kept Wolves up with a final game goal last season AND is performing very well this season too. Hardly an average player.
Spot on that Tigercity, if Hunty had stayed fit we would have probably stayed up. Mclean/TWF/Percy made the same comment about Hunt a few months back which further illustrates how clueless he actually is about football. I take the trouble to actually watch games with our players in them and Waggy is a good un, no doubt there are a few neg-heads queing up behind Mclean to knock Waghorn if we don't get instant success, going by the kneejerk reactions we usually see on here.
