Morning Dave, Everyone. Stuck in A&E waiting for the doctor to find my x-rays. No idea why I am here other than the excruciating pain that onset 7 hours ago at the site of the op I had a few moths ago. As unexpected as it is painful because progress had been steady if unspectacular. Not sure how I am going to get to Leicester at the moment, hotel booked and everything
Morning all. Bright and very breezy here this morning. Sorry to read about that Fez. Hope that they can find out quickly what the problem is.
Thanks for the well wishes. Pain controlled, hand swollen. Apparently a delayed reaction to lifting something earlier, maybe just over working it. Slept the day away, don't normally get that much sleep. Will see if I can drive tomorrow... otherwise National Express it is.
Morning all. Dry and bright currently, but showers are forecast. I have some woodland cyclamen bulbs that I want to get in if possible. Some that I already have are doing well and spreading, creating quite a splash of colour. I put some more in last year, and I suspect that the voles had them as there were very few that did flower. I will try a different spot nearer to the existing ones and see if they are more successful.
Morning all. Overcast but dry currently, but a wet spell is in the forecast. Yesterday a new Lidl store opened in town, and there was quite a scrum as people went to see what they had on offer. For a town with a population of 6,100 it is well served with a very large LeClerc, a Super U, and Aldi and now the Lidl. Despite this there is still a thriving High Street with independent butchers, bakers, electrical appliances and other speciality shops. Some people still prefer to make use of these shops even if it can cost a little more sometimes. One clothing store burnt down about five years ago, very dubious circumstances, and the area it occupied has been turned into another free car park. I suspect there would be quite a storm of protest if charges were brought in.
Morning all... Great article here on a French village.. with so much that is good about French life https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-46329850
Mornin' all. Fingers crossed today Dave as any thing less than 3 points will not be good. Hopefully Mr Pukki will be back on fire. Here fresh but blue skies. Yesterday was the first day of the log fire. Also yesterday, with two family members down from Madrid, we had roast turkey with all the trimmings followed with mince pies and christmas pudd. Today cold turkey, pickles and chips, tomorrow turkey curry, and the day after turkey soup. Family tradition. The turkey cost 3 Euros a kilo and was delicious. It was the breasts and wings. About 3.5 kilos. As other parts of the family visit I will repeat the process. And finally all the best to those travelling and well done Hornet-Fez for making it. Please don't jump up and down too much when we score Are you going Yorkie?
I know Limoux very well, our Brexiteer voting friends live nearby. What stands out from the article is the area's horrendously high unemployment rate. Our friend, a former farmer has no shortage of work as a builder /handyman. They stayed with us when we lived in the Tarn and liked it so much they moved to France and have been there for 18 years. They are trying to sell their large estate to return to the UK for family finance reasons. I don't think they are trying very hard as they both love their life in France. They will probably keep a holiday home in the area if they do return to the UK.
Just to set the record straight, in France SH and myself would be counted as unemployed, as are students. In the UK they are considered to "not be of working age", so are excluded from the figures. In the same way you can have an unpaid internship, very popular with MPs, which excludes you from the UK figures as you are not seeking work, but in France you are unemployed. Lots more examples of how countries choose to present the figures. Wherever a county has a large population of the retired in an area such as Devon and Cornwall, there is a mismatch in the numbers of those who say there is little work, yet it has low unemployment. The figures are not a good indicator of what is actually going on.
