Steve Lansdown must be considering these 3 managers as Lee Johnson replacements. Bristol City are having a tough time of things as of late having lost their last four fixtures in a row. Lee Johnson must surely be feeling the pressure after such a poor run of results, only scoring two goals in the quartet of defeats. At the same stage last season, the Robins were nine places and nine points better off than their current position of 14th and points haul of 22. There has been significant investment in the squad, and the stadium and much more is expected after the backing received. It has been an inconsistent and less effective campaign from all involved, and that could signal owner Steve Landsdown to start to consider the possibility of a replacement, should their poor form persist over the festive period and into the New Year. With that said, here are three considerations to Landsdown should he need to do the unthinkable and ponder a replacement to the current first team-manager at Bristol City. The current Blackpool manager is quietly and unassumingly going about his business in League One with the Tangerines just one place and one point off of a play-off place. Terry McPhillips Since his appointment as caretaker before getting the job on a permanent basis, Terry McPhillips has won 13 of his 25 matches in charge, losing just five. If Blackpool continue to improve then the 50-year-old, who is in his first managerial job, could be in the running for a post further up the footballing pyramid with Bristol City a possible future place of employment Danny Cowley The Lincoln manager has been touted for jobs in the second tier for a while and having ignored all advances; he has currently guided his side to the top of League Two. Danny Cowley and his brother, Nicky, have been an impressive managerial duo and should they continue to produce the goods, then Steve Lansdown should undoubtedly have the pair on his radar should the Robins’ poor form continue over the festive period. It could be a potential appointment that would be a breath of fresh air at Aston Gate. Martin O’Neill It might seem like a bit of a stretch, but Martin O’Neill is out of a job and could be rejuvenated moving back into club management. O’Neill has had success within the domestic game, and it could be an ambitious, impressive appointment should Lee Johnson get dismissed, should the poor run they are on continue. With the investment within the club, O’Neill is adept at managing clubs with massive support and even bigger expectations. With the disaster that was the UEFA Nations League campaign now over, it could be the perfect job to get him back into club management. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/s...ese-3-managers-as-lee-johnson-replacements/4/
Don't go blaming me I'm only the messenger, personally I would love David Moyes if we could afford him, if LJ and MA were both to leave that would cover his wages surely, just food for thought.
Yeah none of those 3 fill me with any confidence. Certainly not MoN given the comments that came from the Ireland camp about his outdated, antiquated style.
Steve Bruce for me, over to you Mr Lansdown, if you have ambition get your cheque book out, then of course, if you like the position we are in now I don't think we are going anywhere, just an average Championship side if we are lucky.
Only one of those lot is Danny Cowley, maybe MoN So that’s it we are getting that Blackpool Manager. As to Moyes, I personally think that’s never going to happen. After all he was interviewed in AG surrounded by City people he was hardly likely to say “No way” I would suspect we will go the way lots are now and go German
Yes we do and whilst a majority of us want him to turn it around I just can’t see it. I still live in hope, as nothing more would give me satisfaction of going up and with LJ at the helm. Although in the real world I believe a loss tomorrow would be a nail if not the final nail in the coffin.
In the relegation zone at Christmas and I will be calling for a change. Honestly though - some of these Fantasy names being banded about - we are Bristol City FFs. We won’t get Moyes or MON or McCarthy. We will get another ‘up and coming’ untried manager from the lower leagues. It’s the same policy as we apply to our players. For me it’s a question of whether things get so bad that it becomes worth a jump into the unknown. I really do hope Johnson turns it around though. I don’t enjoy changes of manager.
I would not bother going to Ashton Gate Sunday if we lose tomorrow and don’t beat Millwall. The gate we be a very noisy place and it will be Johnson last game.
How City can revel in Portman Road atmosphere City can give themselves the best chance of securing a positive result through generating their own atmosphere at Ipswich Town. Lee Johnson believes the players and fans working together can "make a big difference." His side secured their first win at Portman Roads for 39 years last season, with another positive result there tomorrow (Wednesday, November 28th, 7.45pm KO) ensuring an end to a recent run of defeats in the tight Sky Bet Championship. Head Coach Johnson said: "It’s up to us to go and enjoy the atmosphere and create our own atmosphere, buoyed by our fans who are going and who were excellent against Leeds, and we thank them for that because they make a big difference. "I can promise you we are going into the game very positively and we won’t show any fear. Of course we respect the opposition but we respect every opposition and it is our job to go and influence that game in a positive light and players to bring out their best personal performances." The Tractor Boys currently find themselves bottom of the division but Johnson is still keen to see his own players perform if they are to get the job done. "I love going to Portman Road, I always have," Johnson said. "It’s a fantastic, very traditional stadium. It’s an old style pitch and notoriously Ipswich have always played excellent football. This year they haven’t started as well as they’d have hoped but they have changed manager (Paul Lambert) and things are positive down there." Tickets remain on sale for Wednesday night’s Championship fixture. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/how-city-can-revel-in-portman-road-atmosphere/
Is this a bad thing? Most of my years (since the mid eighties) supporting City, we have craved to be a mid-table side in England's Second Tier....
Supcon i'm not suggesting it's a bad thing, and yes it's great to be a mid-table Championship side, but I thought our chairman would have more ambition than that, but if he's satisfied with being in that position I don't think our supporters will be very happy spending hard earned money supporting that outlook.
Eh? How can you not go to the gate if we don't beat Millwall before we play them? Have you a time machine or as I suspect just clueless and have no idea of who we are playing and when?
Nose on the block and have been right with the predictions so far -tonight lose and at best a draw against the wall that for me is bye bye Johnson. Er i be having a cooked breakfast before the game and taking my seat of 22 years and watching us struggle against the wall and watching Ashton Gate erupt when the crowd becomes very hostile towards the manager come the end.
If we fail to win tonight, ashton gate will not be a good place to be, come sunday, if like me your a LJ fan & LJ himself of course.
I've mentioned Danny Cowley before who has done a brilliant job of getting Lincoln out of the National League and now vying for a place in L1. But I'm not sure it would be the best appointment for us. David Moyes gets both thumbs up from me, but we're all about saving money and not going for it as has been proved before, so don't hold your breath
