Last time I went a few weeks ago we went in a little Italian cafe bar just over the bridge going towards the Abbey.
It's just on the right and they do fish n chips with tea and bread and butter for $8 during the day .
    Quite nice actually

It depends on the Cities demographic and disposable income. In Manchester there must be 40 or 50 great independent places even the little towns like Altrincham the independent places do much better. The chains do still do well but alongside the independents. I suppose Manchester has more pretentious twats like myself.

No idea why Hull City Centre doesn't have more.

Myself, if I can't find an independent I'll go without.

That's the thing, I don't get why. Is it because of demographic? Or the fact there are places like Prinny Ave and Beverley?

We will go to a different independent every Sunday morning for coffee, we have tried maybe 30 different places this year and all of them are thriving. I get it's a bigger city, but you thought there would be 6 or 7 at least.

If I'm going chain it's Pret for me, much better breakfast options.

I know there's been a fall in the foot fall into the centre.

Went to Magpie in the summer for first time since the fires - bang average I’m afraid. I’ve always liked Little Chip, no frills but great fish.

That may be compared to 2017 but the footfall is visibly higher than prior to City of Culture, and is now starting to span a wider daily hour range. I was out with a former Hull lad last weekend and he couldn't believe how far the city centre has improved and how busy it was. He came from Thursday to Sunday. He last visited 3 years ago.

The City centre looks a hell of a lot nicer than it did 4 years as ago.

I would have to say one of the best I have tried in Hull City Centre is Coffee 31 Waltham street (which is down the side of what was BHS)
Let me know what you think if you do end up trying it.

Liquid Jade off whitefriar Gate is exceptional for coffee and tea, so suits me and the missus down to the grounds as she's a non-coffee drinking wierdo...

Magpie was bang average before the fire, it used to be great but went downhill a long while back.

My friend kept saying it was on a par with Covent Garden, but he was a bit pissed by then.
