Bates has stated we received 1.75 million for Gradel and that the money is going into Simon Graysons transfer pot, dare say forgotten about come January http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co...._deal_was_not_such_a_good_one_bates_1_3736224
"We’ve still got a substantial sum which is about 1.75m net over a year and that goes into Simon’s (transfer) pot.” So yeah, maybe some of it will end up in Simon's purported pot. Next July.
Nah guys, it's all in his pot. Every last penny. But that pot just happens to be in Ken's pocket. Unfortunately Ken has deep pockets and short arms.
If one takes that statement at face value, what does it mean? 1.75 million in transfer fees, players agent fees, etc? Does it include wages? Can it be blown and loaner player wages? Did he over spend (please don't hurt yourself on this one) and therefore his pot was previously negative so all that will be left over is less than 1.75 million? One never knows exactly what he is saying do we?
From what I have read before, Grayson gets a budget, like any department in a work force I guess. That budget is set on both the players wages and the actual cost to get them into the club. With Grella and Bessone being shown the door that is two extra wages we have saved and of course a third in Gradel. I can't for the life of me work out why we are looking at Forsell yet we turned down a fee to sell Paynter. I don't want to see Forsell at the club but I would swap him for Paynter and have another £150k in the post Now this isn't a pro Bates call but trying to be fair and work out what is going on I have a feeling Simon probably over did it last year with the loan signings and he must have wasted a lot of money. I would be surprised to see more than maybe 1 or 2 coming in this year when the loan window opens again. Maybe Simon has realised the harsh reality that he isn't going to get Premiership quality scratching around the bottom of a barrel so he is being over cautious with his little pot of gold ready to make it work better next season? I don't know, just throwing ideas around trying to make sense of it all. One thing is for sure, the size of the post isn't large enough and Bates is being tight with it but if that is what his contstraints are Simon either has to call his bluff and probably get shown the door, walk out himself or learn to cope with it. I guess he could also hope that the anti Bates protests cause a positive reaction
ristac...you make some sound points and yes of course im sure Grayson has a waged budget for the season but im sure there is some room to move having let people go at the begining of the season and this last week. Im sure Brown,Lonergan and Rab and whatever % we are paying of Keough are not on more than the combined salaries of Naylor,Beesone,Kilkeeny,Johnson,Kasper,Higgs,Max and Grella. also stack in 1m for kasper and 1.7m for gradel = 2.7m christ if he just bought a CB for 500,000 and a LB for 400,000.... he would still cover the wages and save 1.8m it just does not add up....
Totally agree and I think something is going on that stinks behind the scenes, the Delph money as well. I have just posted in another thread about wages, Give Gradel his £20k a week on a 3 year contract, that is 1 million over a year. If we do not win promotion sell him next year for top dollar £5 million EASY at his age as well. We would have still been over £2million better off than now and had him at the club another year. Bessone and Grella have just gone, their wages given to Snodgrass and Becchio on improved contracts, we would have had 3 premiership quality players on equal wages all happy and a team being built around them.
I doubt we shall see it invested in the team either, just like we never saw the Kasper money or any other proceeds from sales put back in.
Putting aside what we think of Bates and the true amount of money, does anyone have any targets they would like to see us loan with a view to buy???
