No this thread isn't about signing even more players, no Yakubus or Welling Utd superstars, this is about whether we feel our unbeaten start to the season can be maintained.

I had us down for a sticky start to the season a few dropped points at Colchester, Notts County and possible points dropped against Bournemouth and Scunny while the team gels together as I remember we had a similar situation under Pardew in the Championship with a brand new team and only took 1 point from first 2 games before moving upto 2nd in the table after 10 games.

We all know what happened 2 seasons ago after we won the first 6 games only the difference was then, you couldn't see the good start being maintained, this season having seen both home games and been to Colchester I actually think there's still a lot more to come from the team, I can see this start being maintained for a while yet, don't get me wrong i'm not saying the team is unbeatable but we've chalked up 13 points which should have been 15 very quickly and without really breaking into a sweat.

MK Dons away on Tues 27th Sep looks to be a real 6-pointer, not one of those top of the table clashes 2 games into the season ;) but before then we face Sheff Weds (h), Exeter (h), Rochdale (a), Chesterfield (h) and think if we can return a minimum 8 points we'll have a great shout at returning to the top of the league as I think Sheff Utd are soon going to hit the wall like we did 2 seasons ago and MK Dons have gotten by with an easy start to the season, will probably finish in the top 6 still but without Baldock won't maintain there top 2 status I believe.

We'll need a good return from those 4 games as after MK Dons away we then travel to Sheff Utd for another 6 pointer, lets hope they've hit the wall by then so fellow Addicks can we keep this good form up heading into the upcoming 6 pointers?

Martinho, I can see us getting 12 points from those games

    Charlton 2 Sheff Wednesday 0
    Charlton 4 Exeter 1
    Rochdale 1 Charlton 2
    Charlton 3 Chesterfield 0

Plus beating Preston 2-1 in league cup, so we could be going to MK on a six game winning streak <ok>

You could well be right, AllHell - Rochdale and Exeter haven't continued their form from last season and Chesterfield are still struggling with the step up, which I have to say surprises me no end.

The key victory IMO will be against Wednesday tomorrow, after that any potential mountains are going to look rather like foothills and we can fly into the MK Dons game confident that another one of our 'Nemesis' players, Charlie Macdonald won't, as usual, be overly influencing the result.

Good post, Martinho. Full of positives.

I think we have the squad to take a few injuries/suspensions and that is the reason why this season should remain a good one. Hopefully Powell can keep the squad happy and use the cups for rotating and keeping everyone and everything fresh.

And Charlton? So far we have played four teams likely to end in mid-table and one which will be fighting relegation. Before the start I tipped Sheffield Wednesday rather than Utd as our main threat. Last year at home to the Owls was maybe our best home performance. If we can reproduce that tomorrow we will have beaten a strong side for the first time. I believe we can do it but so far we have proved nothing (except that we have the best reserve team!).

We've had a far more difficult start than MK Dons! Bournemouth (who were expected to continue the form which provided them with a top 6 finish last season), Notts County (who under Martin Allen have been tipped to be a dangerous side this year), Colchester who every season finish just outside the play-offs, newly relegated Scunthorpe, Bury (who are on fine form and could easily finish top 6) and now Sheffield Wednesday who finished a very similar position to ourselves last season and are one of the favourites for promotion.

    Bournemouth
    Notts County
    Colchester
    Scunthorpe
    Bury
    Sheffield Wednesday

    vs

    Hartlepool
    Exeter
    Yeovil
    Chesterfield
    Stevenage
    Carlisle

I think we've had the hardest start of the lot - in the next month we've got Sheffield Wednesday / MK Dons and Sheffield United the only team left for us to worry about after then will be Huddersfield.

Once we're past this month though there is one thing we cant get though - COMPLACENT

Every game even now should be treated like a Cup Final

Good article, i was thinking up a similar one in the last week or so. For me, we have bolted out of the blocks, i am very surprised we are sitting where we are. I think alot of fans dont really follow it as closely as they make out as b4 seasons kickoff how could you honestly say we would be on 12 points given the players are basically a new team ?
Hence, for me, we are sitting on bonus points as it is. The scary thing is i see us not even hitting 3rd gear yet, as we should form combinations and partnerships all across the field in the coming weeks.
I'd say our opening fixtures have been about mid to hard, and we have come out with as much points as you could ask for.

I wish i could somehow personally congratulate the players or CP, dont ever take it for granted guys, assume we should be unbeaten on 90 poijnts or something, winning a single game of football is hard as it is.
