Too tough, tried for half an hour, all I came up with was Gold Chain, not right I know, also it's a hurdler not a chaser!

Surely the first part is G, from GG, since it states that it's the first letter. An awkward sort that could be dug up would be a Sod. Mix it up and add it to G to get God's. Second part is belonging to various people so if it belongs to you you Own it. God's Own is therefore my idea of the solution here. He won the Haldon Gold Cup on 6th November aged 10.
