Indeed. It's new but it's hardly the Rous Cup. It's also already seemingly well valued across Europe. In our group, both Spain and Croatia were clearly determined to progress. Some people were equally dismissive of other international tournaments when they started too, such as not entering the World Cup until 1950.
Group A is a serious competition but by the time it gets to Group C it’s like a bastard offspring of The Anglo Italian Cup & The Anglo Scottish Cup for non-competitive International teams.
not to mention some hull bloke called hardaker not wanting english clubs wasting their time in european competitions.
Right, I'm going to go all Emporor's New Clothes on this one, cos I haven't got a clue. We've qualified for the semi-finals of summat. What, for ****s sake? I know it's in Portugal. Against them smarmy bastards and the other A teams, but... What's the **** that about? I mean obviously if you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find us....maybe you can turn up on the Iberian Peninsula next year and watch this but, details, people, details. What are we in the semi-final of? Does it have a name? Is it a real thing? Or is it a cynical lying pile of ****e, like what happens when a Politician's tongue moves. Does it lead to anything? Or is it like 99.9% of cold calls trying to shift ill-fitting double glazing? Help. I'm outa me depth here.
Nah, that's your hashtag now Chazz. No one can take it off you. Unless they can come up with a cause more important than not understanding International Football Tournaments, and let's face it, that's not likely to happen!
So far it means we came 4th in the World Cup but are now officially better than the team who came 2nd. As it stands we’re now the 2nd best team in the world. If the Dutch draw with, or beat, the Germans tomorrow France will fail to progress to the latter stages meaning we will officially be named the new World Champions. FACT.
Switzerland 5 Belgium 2. Ha. Get ****ed Belgium. Swiss progress to SF, along with us, Portugal and either France or Holland. Whether we win it or not, this will be excellent prep/tournament experience for latter stages of Euros.
That was a really good comeback.. One thing the nation's league gas done is at least made the football more competitive.. Well for most nations anyway
The experience of knockout stages is worth its weight in gold as the qualifiers really don't challenge you. I've loved the new tournament and it's great to have this positivity about our National team back. Its great to enjoy watching England, although it seems so simplistic so many times over the past 5 years its seemed a chore.
Yes these are good points !! I didn't watch until the last 20 mins today but there seemed a hell of a lot more urgency to the game. We know that we will easily qualify for the proper Euro in 2 years which leaves only 3/5 games every 2 years when it comes to tournaments that are meaningful!! Well done UEFA
