As usual you get the wrong end of the stick ... I have not once commented that Beckham was not a terrific footballer - I have merely made the point that his popularity owes a lot to his image marketing ... You cited his goal against Wimbledon ... yet he was not the first (or last) to score from that distance ... nobody is really going to remember Charlie Adam in future because he is a bit of a **** and an ugly **** ... but his goal was arguably better than the one scored by Becks ... that is all ... I have no problem with you having a soft spot for a good looking young man in a sarong ... that does not make you gay ...
You go around in circles. Maybe Austins was better, but Beckhams was the first at the brand new era of the Prem. He was only a young lad then, stepped up and wallop. One of the SAF kids. I can't hardly remember Austins, you hate brand Beckham as he's bigger than Leicester. Keep on hating,
Beckham was nowhere near world class on his own, his delivery was world class but as an all round player he wasn’t great. What he did have though was the perfect skill set to compliment Scholes, Giggs and Keane. It was a complete midfield. I sometimes wonder if Ronaldo would have shined as much if we didn’t ditch Beckham.
Beckham wasn’t a supremely naturally gifted footballer. However, what he had was the desire to be the best he could be, and he worked harder than the vast majority of his peers on his game. He’d stay behind after training hitting hundreds of dead balls - corners, free kicks etc. He practiced his crossing for hours on end. Guess what happened? He became brilliant at all 3 of those disciplines. He made the most of what he had and he was a genuine professional. He deserves respect for that alone.
Beckham was alright as a player, decent haircut, 50/50 bisexual, it was either Posh or one of the lads out of Five, his image for me meant the equal to his football. I remember being at the front of the East Stand, circa 2002 when the Man Utd players were warming up in front of us. The lads smelt good but Beckham smelt like a bitches fanny. Probably why he went into aftershaves and that ****e..
DB has used his brand/fame to enrich himself to a level that few players can match, but he has also has used it to promote good causes and charities - he donated all his earnings from PSG for example. DB was used as part of the marketing team for the London Olympics because of his global fame, and also for World Cup bids, again he didn’t do this to earn money. Agree that he wasn’t the greatest but he sure had class
Agree with what you are saying mate but until I see the bank deposit slips going into these charity accounts, it's just another PR stunt to me. The guy is like a walking lego model, royal weddings and all that ****e but for me the whole thing is a UK stunt. This is a guy btw that hired the best lawyers to get off a speeding charge using the 14 day rule. Personally like Philip Green, he thinks the tickets he wares and the fake persona will carry him through like as some sort of hero..
I can't believe that Beckham is getting a character assessment, when you look at many of todays players. Let's rip the multi title winning english lad to pieces, as he was a false overhyped wannabe. Who happened to marry some posh dog, and give his kids stupid names.
I think most deep down like Beckham as a footballer. Where he ****ed up was marrying that miserable, ugly bint who has a face like a slapped arse.
I'm not ripping him mate, as I said he was a decent footballer but for a decent footballer he is certainly milking the cow. Add to that his talentless bint of a wife that uses her hired girls for the designs to her failing fashion range then the pair of them have done alright.. The pair of them is everything that is wrong in this rotten, ****ed up Country..
In what way? the Country went loopy with him in 1998 for getting sent off for England, a good few reckon it cost us the world cup haha ffs..but he was a hero in 2001 after the free-kick against Greece. Yes he gave Man Utd fans memories and unless you followed every England game he played in then maybe a few twitches in the dick but he made his name with that goal against Wimbledon, he's done well, the media love him. Paul Scholes btw was way beyond him, probably one of the best footballers I had the pleasure of watching on numerous occasions..
I've already said, like him or not, what he has done is give us memories. Like you've just proven by remembering them. And these are years old. Surely that's a great thing to achieve?
