Has Rees-Mogg resigned his membership of the Conservative Party yet? Surely, UKIP expresses his views!!

@ImpSaint. Can she call another referendum? (to me, she's just pissing both sides off, making everything impossible, then calls another referendum, saves the UK from ridiculousness and becomes the greatest PM ever?)

    As David Davis said

"If a democracy cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy."

It would also end up with a full on revolt within the Tory party and wipe out the voterbase. I take your point though. It would be a delight for non Tories.

Of course she can.......If she can keep her party on board with the idea AND then get it approved in parliament. We know the latter is possible, the former would be more tricky with even Tory "moderates" being a bit wary of ****ing off their constituency voters.

She can do anything as long as she can get it through her party and get it through parliament. Always a numbers game. She could put no deal through IF she can get it through. She could cancel the whole thing........IF she could get it through.

Once upon a time we went to war in Iraq by getting it past the party and through parrliament. Anything is possible.

As to your assessment. I think most Tories currently are thinking your scenario is what is happening. Trojan horse. Mess the whole thing up, present a crap deal and then say its this or nothing. She achieves the cancellation. A lot of suspicion. I'm not so sure. I just think she is weak and does not know who or how to please anybody and is trying to remain while pretending to leave.

Do something and then pretend you are doing the opposite. The opposite that you said you would do when you asked for the votes. Normal political stance really. They always seem to do one thing and then spin it as something else.

Don't need to do it as two rounds. Make it a ranked-preference vote: each person numbers the options 1, 2 and 3, and after the first round the option with the lowest vote total is reallocated based on the voter's second preference. So if in the first round this deal finishes third (and I think it would), that option gets taken off the table, and their second-order choice between No - Deal and Remain carries the day.

Thats precisely what i meant by AV so yeah i agree.

It's just in practice the Brexit vote will be split in two and neither will be near the total remain vote for the first round unless there's been a massive swing in opinion since the first referendum, so the first round will be choosing the type of brexit.

I think we’d get better defence on a lower budget ... with more ICBMs

Yeah, I think that's the best way to do it. I'm also quite sure it'd result in Remain winning, and handily; a lot of people like their idea of Brexit, which is likely fantastic but also exceedingly impossible to bring to fruition, but far fewer like the idea of this deal or of a situation where the UK is cut off from most of its key economic partners.

Not sure that'd be necessary. This deal stands zero chance of getting through Parliament - too many sides dislike it. So it might come down to a no-deal versus remain decision. The EU has already hinted that they will be happy to extend the Article 50 deadline if necessary for serious reasons (other than just wanting a delay).

If that happens Leave's campaign will be rather hamstrung. No £350M for the NHS, no claims that leaving the EU will be easy, no claims that trade deals can be done over a cup of tea. And, hanging over it all would be the spectre of the horror of a WTO Brexit. No matter what our resident propagandist tells you about how easy it'll make it to reduce the price of oranges, the government itself has plans to requisition ferries, use troops to distribute food and use the M26 as a lorry park. They'll be ****ed.

Against that will be a feeling of "so you're asking us to vote again until we get it right" working against the Remain campaign. And they'd need to be a damned sight more positive than last time in their campaigning.

    Interesting times.

    Vin
