https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46188110 Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been charged by the Football Association with misconduct for alleged breaches of its betting rules. The charge relates to the period of January 2018 and Sturridge has until 18:00 GMT on Tuesday, 20 November to respond.
It relates specifically to these Rules - Rule E8(1)(a) – a participant shall not bet, either directly or indirectly, or instruct, permit, cause or enable any person to bet on – (i) the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in or in connection with, a football match or competition; or (ii) any other matter concerning or related to football anywhere in the world, including, for example and without limitation, the transfer of players, employment of managers, team selection or disciplinary matters. Rule E8(1)(b) – where a participant provides to any other person any information relating to football which the participant has obtained by virtue of his or her position within the game and which is not publicly available at that time, the participant shall be in breach of this Rule where any of that information is used by that other person for, or in relation to, betting.
Yes maybe but it could be anything. Other than results, what sort of football related stuff would a person bet on? The first thing I thought was how did the FA find out?
We don't know any details yet so it may not be himself that placed a bet but someone else, based on information he gave them.
I presume it's about west Brom loan.... so who knows For me it really depends on the exact offense. He says he never bet on football which is quite specificso he could well have passed info per z's suggestion.
Would there really be bookies offering odds on which club Sturridge would go to on loan? #genuinequestion
Dunno. It's very specific charge of around the time of January which his when loan ocurred. The only reasoned explaination which excuses him of guilt is he confided in a friend and friend betrayed him
Who knows The scale of prior charges is wide. Joey Barton was given 6 years ban. His was huge scale. A norwich player was fined and warned over future conduct. A Lincoln city player was banned for 6 years for intentionally getting two yellow cards and getting sent off. The pie eating fat goalie was fined and given 2 months after eating the pie. Man city had a lad fined for betting another games. Android Townsend was banned for 4 months and fined Of course the usual occurs elsewhere, buffon was charged twice for massive vetting and he was let off as he was playing for juve
Number of throw ins sounds a reasonable bet for someone who would bet on such things. Le Tissier was involved in something similar years ago but backed out during the game as he couldn't go through with it - or something like that But ... would a bookie really take on a bet from someone walking in saying 'I want to bet on Daniel Sturridge going to West Brom on loan'? Surely they'd think the person must have some inside information. It's not like betting on a high profile thing like which team Neymar would be going to or who the next manager of a team is going to be.
