There are no excuses – I can only apologise – Johnson Saturday, November 10th 2018 A disappointed Lee Johnson wants to see more from his players after they lost 1-0 at home to Preston North End. Johnson said he had full belief in his squad but did not see them hit form in the BS3 encounter. Callum Robinson tapped in the only goal of the game in the first half, to which City offered little in reply. Famara Diédhiou had a couple of off-target headers, while Josh Brownhill’s late free kick was tipped away by Preston’s keeper Declan Rudd. But it was a game which lacked creativity and free-flowing football, with City’s head coach left frustrated. When asked about Saturday’s performance, Johnson said it was “Not good enough.” “That sums it up really well. I don’t think enough individuals played at the top of their game and I can only apologise. “I’m very disappointed, I’m particularly hurt because I think we have got to do more and, more importantly, we have to play our way. “Credit to Preston because they were dogged and difficult to play against. They have a lot of their best players back fit and they are a good side but we have to do more. Too many players on the day just didn’t hit top form and the buck stops with me. “We talked a lot about statistics last week but today it was about not being good enough. “We are not at home now until December and sometimes that helps because our away form has been pretty good. We can sit off the game a little bit and break. We’re expected to take the ball at home and produce wonderful, flowing football but we are not confident enough at this moment to do that.” "Too many players on the day just didn’t hit top form and the buck stops with me. We talked a lot about statistics last week but today it was about not being good enough." The result leaves City in the midtable zone, around equal distance between the top six and the drop. Johnson continued: “We’re 13th in the league. The big picture is we are not a million miles away from where we should be with a new team…we’re still five points off the play-offs and six points off relegation. “I believe these players can put a run together but today’s performance was not good enough to do that but I’m not going to lose faith in the players who I have signed.” He concluded: “This week I’m here to help [the players be at their best] because you can give them a kick up the backside but I need to support the players too and make sure they support us as staff. [Now] we turn up for the Leeds game full of fight.” https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/there-are-no-excuses-i-can-only-apologise-johnson/
this is very low key, it seems to me he is being overly protective of the situation the players and the results! the situation is not just 5 from there and 6 above there or mid table "where we expect to be!" it why we are there a lack of good results the players do not seem to be the same gelled group that played in the first 10 or so games... [ did a post on another thread explaining this ] and the results are pure "s****".... LEE harps on about statistics …. not really statistics other than we lost lost after a win win etcetc .. he implies the "statistic [ only type discussed last week ] was the "expected" THIS THAT OR THE OTHER! in reality it is not a flowing statistic, as each time an event happens it restarts again! and is based on the possibility [ not probability] of the event being negative or positive … basic computing uses 1 or 0 ! or if you like yes /no … +/- etc etc etc. so maybe LEE, chuck that [expected statistics] out of the window asap …. a solid statistic is . . . D D L W W W W L L D D L W W L L L lost 3 on the trot and have won 6 drawn 4 lost 7. losses should never be more than either games won or games drawn! it is great to have a squad that is, and to be honest is quite deep and above average … but you need to realise the best team/formation and get it working as the backbone for the next 21 games when at least 36 points must be a long term target and 15 in the next 9 games a definite MUST…… loose orchestrations of how close we are to top 6 I think is just crumbs of comfort "to suggest and and keep the fans happy that we have it as a target" I do not think we have, I RECKON THE PLAN IS TO PUT IN PLACE A TEAM that will be up for it next season. to go into the prem at the end of this season would be a disaster, we have players that in the longer term might be able / are able to compete at that level, but sorry not this or next year. another interesting anomaly is "we have a player / s that can compete at international level but are mostly being used as subs?"
had 504 error and 503 error messages repeatedly coming up on screen so did not complete the post and the second post re errors has not appeared!!!!! completed previous now
Our next 2 games are both away at Leeds and Ipswich, LJ said he is a bit happier playing away because ~ “We are not at home now until December and sometimes that helps because our away form has been pretty good. We can sit off the game a little bit and break. We’re expected to take the ball at home and produce wonderful, flowing football but we are not confident enough at this moment to do that.” It used to be said that playing at home in front of your own loyal fans gave you instant home advantage, obviously times have changed.
Two more looses there wiz surly would have to go after that, bottom three we could be after those two games.
Based on our recent poor form I truly don't see any points coming our way from Ipswich and Leeds and that could leave us heading further downward. Even if we get lucky, or heaven forbid good, I still can't see a squad capable of clawing our way back up the table and that has to be linked to poor management and recruiting and despite the fact that we remain in mid-table it doesn't fill me with confidence, Quite frankly I'm getting tired of the same old rhetoric and excuses that we have been hearing for way too many years especially when we have the infrastructure and ownership to do much better and it makes me wonder how committed we are in reality, or is it just corporate waffle designed to placate the masses?
"They've got a song for him" - Lee Johnson's bizarre reason for bringing on Matty Taylor for Bristol City against Preston North End The striker was sent on after the hour mark Lee Johnson has admitted he brought on Matty Taylor during Bristol City's defeat to Preston North End because fans have a song for him. The Robins manager sent Taylor on in the 64th minute as they tried to find a way back into the game after Callum Robinson's 35th minute goal for Preston. Yet City were unable to find the net and went down to a 1-0 defeat as their poor form at Aston Gate continued Post-match, Johnson admitted the move to bring Taylor on came as a way to try and kick-start the atmosphere among City fans. He said: "I’m quite pleased we’re away now for a couple of games now because sometimes when you’re away you can create that cause but when you’re at home, you can feel like the atmosphere’s edgy. We’ve lost four or five players with a song! "I’ll be honest, I put Matty Taylor on because I know they’ve got a song for him! It’s up to the players, of course, to get the fans going and we didn’t. That was part of it. We need to create an atmosphere with our intensity. "And last year we sat off the game on the counter attack, we had a lot of speed on the counter-attack and this year it’s a bit of a different game where we have to build due to the strengths and weaknesses of our own team. "That doesn’t mean you can’t run your hardest, you haven’t got to be quick to run your hardest. That’s the bit that hurts because I thought in transition, they were waiting for someone else to do." It was an admission that did not go down well with Robins fans. @Jackhennessy19: What kind of comment is that? Johnson really doesn't have a clue what he's doing any more. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/theyve-song-him-lee-johnsons-2207426
I can't believe he actually brought on Matty Tayor as a substitute because the fans have a song for him and 'We need to create an atmosphere with our intensity.' He ought to sign up a song and dance man, it's a joke.
What planet are you on? There is no way we could be in the bottom 3 if we lose the next two games. You do know how league tables work don't you?
Errrrr we are six points of bottom three, lose those two games and the third from bottom wins we are equal on points.
Ok, lets get this over quickly before your village starts a search for its idiot. The facts are three teams get relegated and its three points for a win. Ipswich are bottom and 11 pts behind us so they cant catch us. The next 4 teams all have 16 pts. 6pts behind us. Three of those teams need to win both games for us to drop into the relegation zone. That's not even counting the two teams above them who are 4pts behind us who need to pick up points in both their games (winning one of them) to catch us. I haven't even checked if any of this teams are actually playing each other but it must be likely. To suggest we may be in the relegation zone after the next two games is frankly just idiotic and just goes to show how little you know about what is actually going on.
Look at our next 6 fixtures though and tell me there is no chance of being in the relegation zone after that. Can see another one of Lee's horror runs coming after 3 straight defeats. This, for me, is why we should be looking for a new gaffer.
No two games we could be same points as third bottom and two more games we could be right in the ****. Have a look at the next six games bloody tough games. Leeds away 0 points Ipswich away 0 points Millwall home Draw Birmingham away 0 points Norwich home 0 points Derby away 0 points
And now you making things up. Read your post it’s up above but just in case you can’t find it you say you say we would be in bottom 3 and that’s totally wrong. And two games has gone up to 4 and now 6 why not go the whole hog and say 29 and cover the rest of the season
The quicker we decide our best team, and tactics and let others worry about us rather than changing every game the better, we have the players capable of winning games, just stop tinkering every game , it’s no coincidence our best run and form came when he had to stick to settled side because of injuries last season .
Pretty much what I said / pointed out in a couple of posts … we could seriously be in the mire... 2 or so games before we PLAYED PNE I ponted out they were in a soft patch after playing most of the first 10 or so games against top opposition Millwall and Hull are not likely to dither around the bottom and Reading should really be better placed than they are! will check out their next 6
