I did say earlier that there were so good French units however as a collective they have never come across as a top fighting force. I will also add that they do quite a bit of stuff with our boys but to say we are somehow inferior is wide of the mark.

You're right in that the British military has suffered due to a lack of investment etc. However, they are still widely regarded as among the best trained, disciplined and effective military World wide.
The French Air Force is top notch, but their Army and Navy rarely get a mention among the World's best.
France's best unit by a long, long way are the GIGN. They are a counter-terrorism unit attached to the French police, but are basically military. This unit is widely respected among our Special Forces. The SAS are always top of any list of the World's most elite force and nearly all other Special Forces worldwide base their operations on the British SAS. If I was caught up in a terrorist attack, the SAS are the number one SF I'd want coming to help.
US Navy Seals are also very, very good.
Apart from the GIGN, French Special Forces aren't in the same league (The French Foreign Legion are very good, but they're not classified as Special Forces).
In today's World, small elite forces are very, very important and Britain is number one in this regard.

Jordan Peterson on Question Time tonight. Though I am instinctively suspicious of him he is a very interesting and hugely intelligent man. Diane Abbott also on, she is an idiot, as is Kwasi Kwarteng, the only two on the panel who can’t grasp the complexity of knife crime.

Biggest cheer of the night for a man saying people using knives in crime should be ‘exterminated’.

Obligatory Brexit question, time for Family Guy.

We all like to pontificate about one country's military being superior to another's. The truth is none have been tested in a real war against a real enemy as opposed to a gaggle of freedom fighters, lone wolves and tin pot dictators assorted conscripts and I for one am happy that we have never had be tested in that way on either side of the Channel.

Not inferior just under funded and short of troops
What you are talking about is a fighting spirit which of course British Soldiers are famous for and quite right too... does that still exist ? Special Units aside ? I am not so sure in all grades of authority from Coppers upwards
I agree we still believe we are the best at well... everything ... the reality is of course we are not
That doesn’t make me anti my country imo but I will go head to head with anyone regarding the truth that is required to wake people up

If the British authorities won't offer asylum to Asia Bibi because of fear of the consequences, does that make the British authorities Islamoterrified?

Yes I know I do but I love the UK I carry a fuming desire to comment on the descent honestly because I do care and please to myself to keep things real as I believe only once the reality rises about the blind loyalty will a Englishman be great once more

In short I believe we all got too sloppy even too comfortable and greedy hence why I struggle with the default opinion that we think we are still the best. I believe we all want the same things but in different ways

I honestly cannot be that proud of how things have turned out to the current day and yet I want to be that can’t be at the expense of bullshitting yourself

Took a look at the Brexit stuff over the weekend

Seriously how can this be such a mess? and what has it cost?

It’s really is no wonder why we are the laughing stock of the world currently.

Still stand 100% that leaving Europe is totally wrong for our next generations. It’s also swung as predicted that any other vote would now give a remain outcome ... not that I believe the current will of the people would get reflected in front of party politics or the personal careers of British politicians... disgusting and disgraceful imo

Mounting pressure and some have done the right thing and walked away

The Cons are living up to their name :Cons
Labour ? There is no Labour Party and how the public continue to believe that there is is madness

Divided crippled nation that will never recover

To think I get knocked for not supporting my country of birth seriously?

Once again another ill informed quote from Lord Haw-Haw.

Your problem is, you are confusing the Brexit negotiations and this great country which you put down at every opportunity. I could go on about the red cross and aid that helps many countries around the World. Whenever there is a disaster our brave men and woman respond and help.

I was at the Theipval memorial yesterday and I was humbled by the many thousands of British people that made the trip to remember. I was also overcome by the many French that thanked and respected us.

On the contrary to what you say we are actually very well respected. The only people that put us down are people like you.

Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya will stand trial today accused of lying to police over a speeding ticket.

Festus Onasanya at the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, in London .

It was alleged they named a man called Aleks Antipow as being behind the wheel to avoid prosecution.
Ms Onasanya is charged with perverting the course of justice - a charge she denies - and her trial is set to start at the Central Criminal Court - better known as The Old Bailey - in London today (Monday).
The hearing is listed to start at 2pm.
The MP’s brother, who lives with his mother in Chesterton, Cambridge, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice in relation to the incident last week.He also pleaded guilty to two further charges of perverting the course of justice, which involved blaming someone else for two separate speeding incidents on June 17 and August 23 last year.Ms Onasanya, who was a solicitor before her election to Parliament, is a Labour whip, meaning she is responsible for party discipline.Mr Onasanya, a singer who is on a tour of the Midlands and Scotland with his band, was bailed by Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC at the Old Bailey.

whats the normal sentence for this

Amusing that people are getting worked up about Corbyn wearing an anorak to Remembrance Sunday when in 1986 he led a demonstration against it. At least give him credit for progress.

To be fair, AFA (the far left) would mobilise every year to confront the NF (the far right) who were given the right to march to the Cenotaph.

Again, to be fair, men like John Tyndall were allowed to march to the cenotaph, even after having known Nazi sympathies exposed.....there were extremes on both sides in those days so seems an injustice to highlight just the one.

Respect Ellers to you making that trip
I also have invested a lot of time respectfully visiting sites based throughout France over the years to study the pain the people went through

Of course we are respected forever for the part we played in the last two great wars

Today however imo things are not the same hence the source of my frustration with our current climate and the sad dismantling of our great culture that has for me devalued our soul and pride. Historically we have a lot to be very proud of but our generation has certainly failed the future generations. I see no confusion on my part for how our country has handled the Brexit affair and I also believe I would be amongst the current majority that feels contempt for British Political Affairs

Lord Haw Haw? I would hope you understood my vote would be for the guillotine.

Brexit: Theresa May calls special cabinet meeting as draft deal agreed

Image caption Ministers are to be called in to see the prime minister this evening
Theresa May is to chair a special cabinet meeting on Wednesday to discuss a draft Brexit withdrawal agreement.
A cabinet source has told BBC the text has been agreed at a technical level by officials from both sides after intensive talks this week.
The Sun reported that every minister was being asked to see the PM for one-to-one talks on Tuesday evening.
The future of the Irish border has been the last major outstanding issue to be settled in the negotiations.
Earlier, ministers said they would publish a "full legal statement" before MPs vote on any final agreement.
The undertaking was given as the government faced near certain defeat in the Commons over whether to publish the legal advice it gets about the terms of the UK's withdrawal.
Cabinet ministers were briefed on the state of the negotiations earlier on Tuesday, at which they were told a "small number of outstanding issues" remained to be sorted.
The BBC's chief political correspondent Vicki Young said individual cabinet ministers were likely to be shown the full draft text this evening as a prelude to a full meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
She said they would have to decide whether they could support it, and if not, whether to resign from cabinet.
In another development, ambassadors from the remaining 27 EU states will meet in Brussels on Wednesday.
The prime minister has been under pressure from both Brexiteers and pro-EU MPs as she tries to seal a deal with the EU on the terms for the UK's exit on 29 March 2019.
