There was a few unhappy stoke fans mate but i think they eating humble pie now, etherington brings some skill to the side and i hope palacios add to this but i really cannot knock what he as done for this club, we were favorites to go down the season we got into the premier league.

Etherington comes from my home town of Peterborough and I watched him play when he was 16/17.He did really well for Posh but was soon snapped up.However,I thought the step up was too big for him and he disappeared for quite some time but now seems to have settled down at Stoke and is playing really well. He was in the same team at Peterborough as Simon davies who plays for Fulham,it didn't take much to see their quality.
Good luck for the season but only after next season. Please beat the Manc scum when they come to The Brittania (Red and Blue please )

I like what I see, but tweak it a little. When we played that way last season, people called it 5-4-1 or similar variations, but it was more of a 3-4-2, much more attacking than it was defensive. Oh and also, Agger should be the other side.

    ----------------------Reina
    ------Carragher------Coates------Agger
    Johnson------Lucas--------Adam--------Enrique
    --------Kuyt------------------Downing
    ---------------------Suarez

Bench: Doni, Skrtel, Robinson, Spearing, Henderson, Bellamy, Carroll

Maybe a bit hopeful with Coates, Skrtel probably deserves his place instead.
Anyway, this is the exact type of game we HAVE to win! Chelsea dropped points in this fixture and it gives us the chance to get ahead. Playing well as we are and the options we have, I can only see us winning. Close game, but 2-0 to us.

Wow lucky you.i always got the impression that he was someone who had no side to him. Funny thing is when he was on question of sport I always wanted Bill Beaumont to win. When Emlyn died I felt really really guilty !!

Hello to all the Liverpool fans here on the Stoke board...
I have to repeat what Crouchthe robot <ok> It has to be the first time I've read so many comments on a game beforehand.
We always knew that the Liverpool fans knew their football. Not one, has said anything unkind about Stoke City thanks one and all.

My own views, I'm expecting a far tougher game than last season. Although I thought we Stoke, played really well. This time it's different.
K.D. has bought well and Henderson looks to be a great signing so far for you. And Charile Adam, I think any other Prem team would or should have looked at getting him. He really impressed me when we played Blackpool last season. I wish them both well.

Downside is, my Daughter is getting married next weekend so, I miss my first only my forth home game in the last 12 years.. Maybe i give Sky a call and they put the game back too Sunday <laugh> I wish!

I'm hoping that, our new signings will improve us as a team? Time of course will tell us. Just to pick up on the comment re Jerome. I honestly wasn't bothered about getting him. But, he does have pace which, we are lacking up front. Well pleased that we got Crouch and especially Palacios.. just sorry that I will probably miss their debuts for the Potter's next weekend.

Fantastic to read so many well educated comments on our upcoming opponents.. When you finally decide on your team, can you let Tony Pulis know too!

Looking at your squad it's looking really positive for Liverpool this season IMHO of course. We had to play well and defend really well v Chelsea, just to get the point.

My head say's that we can do that next weekend. Maybe we can create a few decent chances and give you a really good game.

Sorry, I can't be there and I wish Liverpool all the best for the season. But, can your team have "An off day" next Saturday. Would I take a pt now.

You bet I would. <cheers> Enjoy the game it might be a real cracker of a contest.

I think Palacios in particular will be a great signing for you. He wasn't really given much of a chance at Spurs since he had one or two poor games and has only been given the odd run out ever since. If he gets enough playing time and rediscovers his Wigan form, he'll be an important player this season.

EMLYN HUGHES - was on the way to complete his signing for Liverpool with Shanks at the wheel
"We had to get to Lytham St Anne's to complete the signing so I could play straight away in Liverpool's next match and Shanks drove us both down there. It's only about 10 minutes from Bloomfield Road, but he was the worst driver in the world. He had this old brown Corsair and just as we left the ground he half went through a set of lights and a woman shunted into the back of us and smashed all the lights in. They got out of their cars and exchanged numbers and so on then we carried on.

Next thing, a police car flags us down and the young officer comes up to the car and Shanks winds down the window. 'What is it officer?' he asked, 'I'm sorry sir you can't continue the journey in that car as you've got no lights.' said the policeman. Shanks explained what had happened but the cop was having none of it. 'Do you know who's in this car?', said Shanks, and I thought he was doing the old "do you know who I am" routine. 'No' said the officer, 'I don't recognise you.' 'No, not me you fool,' he said, 'I've got the future captain of England alongside me.'"

Whew, he didn't read my post on the second page... <whistle>

Though, I was joking, just to be clear. I do think it will be a good game, give Liverpool a different sort of challenge (the kind that if Soto were still here, I might have him come on...)

Hoping Liverpool win, think if we do it'll be on a cheeky goal by el pistelero... Enjoy!

I think you may be surprised we can actually "play a bit mate" contrary to what many fans think or say.. and, I did read your comment but will forgive you this time.
Would love to see how you cope with the Jolly green giant but as I said, I can't be there next week. After which.. I hope you win the League, you certainly have the squad to give it a real go this season. Won't mention the "other reds on here" cos it's all nice and frendly so far, So let's keep it that way please.

Either way, whatever happens next week, I will be celebrating <cheers>

Cheers! I really think we have a chance of the title but will have to be on top form at every game. I've been impressed with Etherington he looks a good player we will have to keep an eye on him in the game.

I wouldn't worry there's plenty of us who know that you can play some good football, although i have heard your own fans complain about your style and Crouch and Palacios by reputation will do you no favors in changing opinions.

Think Stoke are a real success story and if Pullis can integrate a few more 'flair' players into your squad without weakening the team over the next few years, then i'd think it won't be that long until you're in the Europa through your league finishes.

We were awesome against Bolton, should have won by more, and we should keep improving. We didn't just have the reputation of long ball football last year, under Hodgson we lived it for months and it was horrible. We're still recovering from it somewhat, and still have players bedding in, so will be interesting to see how we do in a game that i think is one of the biggest tests outside of the top 4.

I have a feeling Bellamy will start as you don't have the quickest defence, though by the same token we may go with Carroll to help defend set pieces. Another interesting point is whether he will go with our big new centre back Coates. Looking forward to the game anyway and good luck!

I reckon Pulis signing Palacios was a stroke of genius. He's a very good player and will only enhance your midfield. It also weakens Spurs squad and it was an act of stupidity on Redknapps part. Serves him right. It will be a good game. I
reckon Stoke should go 3-4-3 with a back three and Crouch, Jones and Jerome up front with Jerome wide to drop off into midfield to act as an extra midfielder. It will be a good game, and you gave Chelsea one hell of a battle. I hope we win, but a point will be a point earnt.
