Funds coming from where? For every pound that HCC had to spend in 2010 they now have less than 50p. Some would applaud the fact the council have actually managed to build the arena, others just look for the negatives. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
With the little money they have, do you really think what they built represents value for money? It was hugely expensive and imo if something like that was to be built we should have built something that would attract huge names and artists followed by people from outside the area spending money in the city in hotels etc.... Just my humble opinion obviously
The planned new Ice Arena has a price tag being banded around of £10 million ish!! for a 5,000 seat arena. That sounds rather underpriced to me !! Even if it was to be more expensive and say run to £15 million it sounds like decent value !!
I don't know building costs so don't know if they truly got value for money. I'm sure though that visitors from outside of the city visit the arena, and when we went to see the League of Gentlemen that Lost Voice Guy was there, seems fame has gone to his head though as he wouldn't talk to his fans! It’s funny reading peoples views about how terrible it is that people put Hull down. Whilst putting other places down. Beautiful irony.
Hull City Council has just been shortlisted for three Local Government Chronicle awards in the Driving Growth, Council of the Year and in the Public/Private Partnership categories. Historically, HCC have an appalling track record, but they deserve some credit for their performance over recent years.
Agreed. It’s the same old stuff though trotted out though. A lot don’t bother with balanced critique, research or usually even a basic understanding of how things work. The council, whoever they are, will be known as dinosaurs, incompetents or corrupters etc. usually by people who can’t even name a couple of the current cabinet. I’d always urge people to strive for more and not settle as HCC are far from perfect. But, if you’re doing that, at least make sure you’ve done a tiny bit of reading or finding out first, instead of pushing maligned or made up stats, sourceless facts (FACTS) or just regurgitated bullshit from some nobhead down the pub. Inadvertently (I’m sure) these people/these ‘views’ actually do more harm to our city than anything else. It also helps disenfranchise and distance people from something which they could participate in and help make good or better.
I find the most consistent form of information are Memes on Facebook, although I do always double check because as Abraham Lincoln once said “You can’t trust everything you read on the internet”
https://cmis.hullcc.gov.uk/cmis/Cou...ficers/tabid/63/ScreenMode/Party/Default.aspx Not heard of most of these. A few still need culling, eg Pete Allen and Daren Hale. Many of them seem to have formally-recognised qualifications. a big improvement from years gone by. Dinosaurs seem to be dieing out. Rise of the hominids?
Wasn't HCC investigated by the government a few years back? If memory serve me right, the conclusion was that it was the most narcissistic council in the country..(mates helping mates ie you had to be in the clique to get in and get on) If they've now cleaned up their act are in the frame for some awards then top stuff. There again some of these awards are like the national soap awards, they're 99% slippery.
They had a very a bad record on stuff like bullying, and had to be put in a form of special measures a few years back IIRC. To be hoped a page has been well and truly turned, and events like Stephen Bayes are isolated incidents of the old regime. Whatever happened to Chris Sumpton?
Not sure...There was a councillor called McFee or something like that, who was kicking about at the top, then disappeared. Not sure what happened to him... Someone must know where the bodies are buried!!!!! (PS..that's a joke, just in case HCC are monitoring this...!!)
HCC has **** all on ours. I think there’s at least half a dozen Police investigations ongoing. Corrupt as ****.
I think you mean nepotism? Anyway they are a long way from those days, when they effectively had a team brought in to run it for them and oversee change I think the odd thing with councils though is that people only really see the councillors, when actually it’s all the people working for the council, Chief Exec down, who actually do the work For what it’s worth I know Hull Council’s Chief Exec well, and he’s a decent bloke.
I think it is very slowly changing . I know a hell of a lot of people that do and have worked for HCC. Some of the stories they tell are quite surprising to here !!
