I've just heard on the radio that today is the 40th anniversary of the release of a momentous album in my life. All Mod Cons by the Jam changed Paul Weller's life too as he has said that his songwriting well was dry after two quickly released albums the previous year, the second of which was disappointing and not well recieved. He listening to a lot of Kinks, Who and Small Faces records and drew inspiration from them and the result was a stunning set of songs and a more sophiscated approach to penning them. Here are some of the key tracks for me, but they are all quality to be fair...
And this B-side to the Strange Town single was included on the US release (Weller's B-sides could easily be A-sides!)...
The Jam cover of The Kinks track David Watts is still one of my favourite Jam tracks. @Saints_Alive have you seen Thursday’s Paul Weller in Session on Radio 2? I think you can still view it on I-player or via the red button
Cheers Fats, yeah I listed to it live on the radio but I will watch it again with the video also. I love the new songs from True Meanings, his songwriting and voice is getting better with age like a fine wine.
There were a couple that didn’t to it for not be honest, but he is still great. Even Kylie had one bad song.
A couple of classical Croatian cellists you may not be familiar with called "2 Cellos" Big on youtube! and at the EXIT music festival in my home town of Novi Sad, Serbia. Probably best known for their AC DC covers! (and Michael Jackson) I'll load 2.
