I think he does quite a bit of marauding and menacing. I’d be interested to see a pitch map for him against City, for example. Not as exciting as Rose was at his best (ie in the past) but still a good reader of the game, and gives 100% every match. Better than Rose as things stand - and better than any of the cross-over right backs Poch has sentenced to a term on the left!
Winks has been impressive too, of late. Getting the ball off the defenders and looking to start attacks and not looking intimidated by the quality of the opposition. Play like that Week in week out and he would be perfect for one of the midfield slots. Disappeared a bit in the second half then re appeared again in the last 15
Tottenham Hotspur have now won 3 successive games at the Olympic Stadium. West Ham's record for successive wins at the Olympic Stadium is 2.
Ben hasn't been near his best this season, although think we have seen glimpses last couple of games. Never a speed merchant like the DoF, he has always been a more reliable defender than Rose and had set the bar pretty high for over a year, improving his forward play, getting a few goals and generally making the LWB slot his own. He didn't finish last season on a high as I recall and was played as a CB in preseason, which didn't work out well to put it mildly - and he hasn't really fully recovered yet. Hopefully, that's about to change, cos I'm a fan of his.
Always great to beat the spammers. Was one of those nights where i couldn't follow the match at all as I was at Festival Hall watching the brilliant Dave Gorman, and having laughed for 2 hours in there, it was great to get out and laugh at the spammers too
Only saw highlights, but Foyth seemed to have a good game. That aside, although the Spanners (in general or yesterday) are not the pinnacle of opposition, the Spurs starting XI was a serious mixture of regulars at various stages of fitness + fringe squad members, For all the squad doom-mongers, there is a squad there to be utilised. You cannot legislate for nor complain about injuries, because that is a squad occupational hazard. Similarly the manager has limited options in terms of how many non-vital games that can be used to give all the squad competitive run-outs. In Pochettino you have to trust wrt to keeping in the PL/CL mix with the squad in its current injury state.
I feel better about our squad after that performance by Foyth. Can slot in for Alderweireld or Sanchez so that both don't have to play all through Xmas fixtures and Verts will be back in the new year. Eriksen and Kane are unreplaceable, but a change in setup can cater for either, especially if Sonny is now up to speed.
Careful, do bare in mind it was against a side that would struggle to score in the red light district in Amsterdam.
A significantly improved performance from the occasions that I saw him last season. He looks like a bigger physical presence and seems to have developed a pleasing amount of pace. He's still relatively slight across the chest and shoulders and will need to work on the upper body strength that a top centre half needs but that can come, However, there's a serious talent there and lots of confidence. I was never worried that he wasn't worth the money that we paid, but £8m was a lot for a player that was so far away from the first team when we're in so much debt. However, you only get one chance to sign such players and he's coming along nicely. We spent more individually on Clinton, GKN, Vinnie and Llorente and collectively they've not produced that much more. Keep it up, Son.
London derby so anything could have happened and three goals without Kane proves he is not irreplaceable.
I assume that reply was to me? And the first part of your answer negates the second. No it doesn't prove that. As a player he is irreplaceable in that nobody we have plays in a similar way. We cannot replace him like for like. Llorente or Son can both play centre forward but in very different styles. However we can play the big man in Llorente or have the 3 mobile small men with Son, Lucas and Alli/Lamela. And my whole point was to say they were not replaceable as players, but replaceable by different styles.
I did think when I saw the pre-season galleries that he'd put on some muscle over the summer, as he seemed pretty lanky when we first signed him. I think the English courses Poch's said he's been taking since he arrived might also be helping, because for his first few games against APOEL he could only fluently communicate with Sanchez, Llorente and Gazzaniga - but if he;s worked on it for the past year he's going to better communicate with the rest of the squad, which given his position and style of play is key
We got the match over here in the States. Lot's of positives. Good mins for Alli, Eriksen, Wanyama. Foyth was excellent. Gazziniga was also. Solid performance from KWP. Son back scoring goals.
A striker who scores 20+ PL goals per season, for 4 seasons running, is effectively irreplaceable. Do Spurs need Kane playing every game, no matter what the quality of opposition, to be able to win that game ?? No.
Little treat for you all. Thought I'd have a read of the KUMB forum to see what their lot were saying before, during and after the game, some absolute bits of gold: BEFORE: They can have the poxy League game, it's this one I really want. Oh dear... With them playing man city 48 hours before, I can see them playing a second string team so hopefully we play our strongest team available stuff them and build confidence through the team Well you were right about playing our second string. To those saying our lack of squad depth and injuries mean we will lose this, Spurs squad depth isn't exactly any better. If the crowd are up for it, then we will win. Our squad depth apparently isn't any better than theirs. And so is it the crowds fault they lost? We stand an excellent chance of getting through to the next round of the Carabao Cup. Do you? Let's smash these slags. We owe them would love a 4-0 win but a 1-0 will do These slags smashed you. Will never have a better chance from recent times to beat this lot well No, you probably wouldn't have had a better chance... DURING: We got Oggbogged. *In reference to Ogbonna's poor clearance leading to our first* Crap ****ing clearance. Who was that ? EDIT: Ogbonna. ****wit. Doesn't seem the most popular of players. Our support can be embarrassing at times. Stand up if you hate Tottenham is the best we have. No wonder they laugh at us. It's not just us who laugh at you, the whole country does. ‘Mega star’ Anderson seen off by Spurs reserves. Ouch. He really is gash though, isn't he? £40m, lmao. When it became obvious Spurs would play a much-changed team, I said to myself "If Son plays he'll be the difference" We got a psychic, ladies and gents! (After Son hit his second) We can't even beat a TH 2nd XI at home. No, no you can't. I ****in hate football I probably would if I supported West Ham. (After Llorente got the third) ogbonna .......... what a disaster. to think he played for juvebtus before us Another Ogbonna dig, truly is Mr Popular. AFTER: I don't want to appear irrational but that Son is a grinning ****, I'd quite like to smash him in the face with a warm greasy chip pan You leave Sonny and his beautiful smile alone, you degenerate ****! Very disappointing I had £20 on us to win the cup at 40/1 really thought we had a chance this year. Lolololololololololololololololololololololol. Spurs only needed 3 of their first team to put us away. We’re still years behind them. Never a truer word spoken. Beaten by totts reserves Yep, you were indeed.
Son's got to be one of the most inoffensive players in the history of the game. Constantly smiling and happy, no off-field issues, grafts his arse off, doesn't always start and never moans. It's like being angry at a golden retriever puppy.
