Just noticed that this game is clashing with the Rugby again. Is it me? WTF, Is it that either party will not back down?
That's fine remote but I don't think you live in South Wales and have to endure the crap we have to put up with from afore mentioned daffodil hatted halfwits on egg chasing international days. And they say football fans don't behave.......
Agreed. I've now lived in England for longer than I lived in wales. Moved to Bristol when I was 23 and spent 10 years playing club rugby north of the city whilst working in Filton. Haven't been a regular attendee at internationals for some time but watched quite a few brizzle games against Welsh clubs. Ditto Sale. Still think it's a bit of a generalisation though. To be fair, seems to be more of the women dressing up. Hey ho, I'll be watching / recording each of the wales games over the next 4 weeks whilst also following the city's fortunes.
You do what you like remote - even if you're in the minority...... My take on it is this. The grass roots support for rugby in Wales is so different from that of football. Even park football supporters who turn out for the local sides associate themselves with and support a Football League club. That's usually through historic family connections - with all due respect, rugby is totally different. I'm not talking about actually playing the game before you have to pack it in through "old age", more about ongoing after your playing days are over. These days very few turn out to see the major Welsh rugby clubs in action - evidence the abysmal attendances for the Cardiff Blues at the CCS before they were turfed out by Tan. Only International games hold any depth of support for the game and they in the main are attendended by people who can't be bothered any other time and just go for the "experience" whatever that is. No disrespect to those who are ardent followers of the game but they are distinctly in the minority on International days.
Rugby Internationals leaves me cold. I wouldn’t watch one if it was in my back garden. The thing that annoys me more than anything is when someone I don’t know asks if I’m watching the rugby match on Saturday assuming because I’m from Cardiff I have an interest in rugby. When I tell them more people watch and play football than rugby in Wales they find it hard to believe. I’d be happier if it wasn’t rammed down our throats by the media. Page after page of it leading up to an international game.
Agree with that. I've got a neighbour who lives just 3 doors away from me. Every rugby international day he's outside mowing his lawn, washing the car or just annoying everyone who's passing with his red Wales shirt and bobble hat on. I like the bloke, but he always shouts to me "are you watching the game today", or "what did you think of the game today?" FFS - I really am not interested but he seems to think everyone should be. I wish the ****er would move............
I finished playing at 33 when I moved to Cheshire. Couldn't be arsed finding a new club having played for the same club for 10 years. My decision. Probably 2-3 before my body would have decided for me. Part of the problems with attendances come from when the game went professional. Unlike football which had Sunday league, all rugby was played at 3pm on a Saturday irrespective of standard. It meant the big clubs never had huge gates. When players stop playing for their team, many still watch that club rather than go to a senior team or region. The problem has never gone away. I suppose you would say I'm an ardent rugby fan. On tv I watch club rugby, 7s, women's internationals, under 20s, whatever is being shown. Still like my footy though. Talking of women's rugby, we were playing Clifton 2nds one Saturday in the 90s. Clifton were playing Bristol in the cup. They asked if we would kick off early so they could go and watch their first team. We agreed. On an adjacent pitch, Clifton ladies were playing a touring team. Ended up with 4 teams in the showers. Quietest I've ever experienced. Made the tabloid newspapers as one of our guys was married to an ITV presenter.
Me too remote I'll tape them too, If you have some spare time take the train up the Rhondda on international day, grown men dressed as women with daffodil hats, grown women in jeans and rugby shirts with pink cowboy hats on. 60% would not be able to tell you the score and 95% would not know that #6 is a flanker and #5 is a lock.
Sorry guys, just realised we've taken a serious thread way off topic. Can one of the mods separate things out? Apologies. No disrespect intended.
@ccfcremotesupport I'll try to separate the "Leicester" thread as you requested Remote...............here goes..........
Depending on who's home on a particular Saturday, you'd just as likely see me watching Caerphilly RFC, Cardiff Blues or the mighty Bluebirds. Will be avoiding Cardiff on Saturday because of the congestion, but intend to Watch the Wales/Scotland rugby on tele whilst taping the radio coverage of the Bluebirds to listen to straight after. Can't see the problem with someone enjoying both, and even if you don't letting others who do get on with it. After all I like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones....Blur and Oasis etc.
Why don't you listen to the Bluebirds radio commentary live and record the rugby to watch straight after?
Got to say, I have a foot in both camps too and see no problem. Also, poor attendance at regional matches is partly due to performance but also due to support for local clubs and people playing. When there's an international, no play and they all descend on Cardiff. It's an occasion and people get pissed. C'est la vie.
Because the knobs who commentate on the football, insist on keeping their listeners informed of the other scores (rugby & football). If I watch the rugby first there will be no mention of the Cardiff/Leicester score so I can listen to it as if it's live. Not ideal I know, but hey ho.
Why don’t you watch the city game on city player and then the rugby? I can’t imagine why the city commentator won’t mention the rugby
