We could acknowledge that Hugo's distribution is a nightmare and just not **** about with the ball back there.......? I don't think that we get that much out of it and it drives me to the point of ranting incoherently.
Given he spent the summer publicly slagging off everyone at Ajax as he tried to force a move, I have my doubts Poch wants him at the club (that and the likelihood of Barca having a fat sell-on fee)
It's a bit tedious isn't it? I see them knocking it about involving Hugo for what seems like no reason to me...little triangles going back to the player who starts it who then goes on to attempt the pass that he could have attempted in the first place...baffling.
You've missed out the bit where Hugo accidentally kicks it out for a throw-in, despite being under no pressure whatsoever...and my blood pressure goes through the roof.
Yeah for one reason or another, Gazza just won’t be number one here. I think that was evident the moment Poch just dropped him once Hugo was fit, was extremely harsh considering the form Gazza was in. I think Alisson has been pretty good to be fair. Not had to make any worldy saves yet but his technique with the ball helps them with attacks, he’s part of that new breed of keeper I’ve been talking about, the likes of Ederson, him, Oblak, ter Stegen, even Pickford, they can all pass the ball over short or long distances really accurately and for a side like us, we need someone who can do similar.
Sell Lloris? I can't believe what i'm hearing. Yeah his distribution isn't great but we aren't gonna get another goalkeeper as good as him as a replacement. Not to mention he's the captain AND a world cup winner. We have little experience in the squad of winning things as it is.
I’m far from his biggest fan but I agree that selling him would be a mistake. As usual, I guess it would depend on the financial side though, if he can be sold for big money and a younger cheaper alternative then I think the club could go for it.
18 months ago I'd have agreed. But similar with Dembele, there's been a huge decline in his performances. Last season in the Prem only Cech made more errors than Lloris leading to goals. He's already cost us twice this season, both in the Champions League, one vs Barca and his sending off vs PSV, not forgetting Toby saved him with a goal line clearance against Cardiff. For all of his 'winning experience' he seems to make an absolute mess of things in big games, the World Cup final itself he gifted Croatia a goal. He's been amazing for us and has to be in the conversation with Jennings and Ditchburn with regards to our best ever keeper but every dog has it's day and I'm starting to think he's had his. He's just no longer as effective for us. Gazzaniga has played better than him so far this season.
You’re right...but his mistakes seem to be telling ones and they wreak of mental panic when he is making them. I believe all keepers make mistakes it’s the nature of their position but if you are handing a goal to the oppo, on a plate and due to your actions the team is suffering. I believe his mistake against Barca set the tone for the game, this is not the behaviour of a Captain. Not saying get rid but that’s a real problem in his game
In the last 3 seasons in the PL Lloris has made the most individual errors that have directly led to a goal...I think the player below him had 6 mistakes less.
What's the sample size? How many GKs have played the same number of games over the last 3 years? How many are involved in outfield play as much as we involve Lloris (for some reason)?
Maybe a few games on the bench in the prem would do him good? Show him he's not a shoe-in to play and to motivate Gazza. I'm not sure why Vorm is still on the bench ahead of Gazza either.
The 20 goalkeepers in the Premier League. Teams don't generally rotate keepers so you're pretty much saying 20 keepers over the course of say 30-35 games (injuries permitting a few missed games). As I pointed out, last season Cech made 6 errors leading to goals, Lloris 5. Spurly has just pointed out that in the past two seasons, Lloris' combined mistakes have been roughly 6 more than second place.
But that isn't right. Clubs buy and sell keepers. Liverpool didn't have a keeper playing 38 games for 3 seasons. Teams get relegated. I would hazard a guess that the sample size over 3 years (Spurlock's stat) of a keeper playing, what, 90 games in the prem is considerably lower than 20
Ok, say then if you cut it from 20 down to 14 or 15, that factors in three new sides plus any new keepers. Out of 14 or 15 keepers, Lloris has still made the most mistakes. For a side challenging in the top 6, that's not good enough.
I just did a quick and dirty tally over the last 3 seasons. Circa 90 games you're looking at: Fabianski De Gea Lloris Courtois Cech Schmeichel
You can probably add Foster (WBA and Watford), Begovic, Pickford (Sunderland and Everton) and Hennessey to that as well.
Begovic 17 appearances 15/16 Pickford 2 appearances 15/16 Foster 15 appearances 15/16 (was doing last 3 full seasons, not this one. Rightly or wrongly)
Not to mention that some of the mistakes we are talking about (Barca, and maybe others) have happened in Europe. So the appearance stats will be even more skewed against Lloris. What we actually need is a mistakes per 90 mins stat.
