There were moments of decent play yesterday, but even piss poor Bolton managed to slip right through our midfield on several occasions, better finishing would have done us. It’s the first time I’ve seen us play & we have very bizarre tactics. A free kick on the half way line ends up back with Marshall. Throw ins are very adventurous, instead of making it easy & getting it to a nearer player, it’s tossed down the line for someone to battle it out with their head. I think we actually won most of our throw ins 50/50’s. Elphick can tackle, but his passing was way off on a couple of occasions. Nice to see Campbell get a full 90 minutes for once. Well taken goal, I thought the keeper was going to save it though. 2nd half, similar opportunity & the keeper did save from Dicko & Another!
Wasnt pretty, but we're not in the position to ask for that yet are we Last minutes were horrible to watch ("Please not a last minute goal, please not another last minute goal "
I thought our goal was weird, 99 times out of 100 Grosicki's dummy would have been cleared and you'd have heard a collective groan come from the fans. But for some reason Campbell was able to run around their defender and finish with power.
Thanks. I was dreading conceding a stoppage time goal when watching the highlights - then I remembered I watched a live stream yesterday. I am 8 hours ahead of GMT, which is my excuse. (As well as old age of course)
Think that has been the case for a couple of matches. Certainly could/should have been more than 1-0 , 0-0 against Preston and Bristol City
Nigel Adkins and Fraizer Campbell speak to Tigers TV immediately following the 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the University of Bolton Stadium.
Campbell’s run into the box, for his goal, was good to see, but that’s what others should be doing. Campbell’s second effort, on the highlight clip, shows why he should be starting each week.. The attack broke down with five players in the box. Four start casually jogging back, Campbell chases out, picks up the loose ball & creates an effort for himself. I’d start him every game for effort alone.
People say that every year and every year it’s a load of bollocks. The league gets stronger and tougher with every transfer window.
I know a lot of people have said how poor Bolton were but it looked like a good game to watch, so nice to see us attacking and actually running with the ball. Just need to be a bit sharper when going for goal.
I think you are right to an extent. I reckon 9-12th are very similar to say 19th to 21st in ability but one or two decent signings difference or a quality manager. You only need to look at what happened to QPR after making 3 good signings or look how well Monk is doing at Birmingham with a poor squad.
The Birmingham example shows just how poor Adkins is for us! Would we be second bottom with monk in charge...I think not
I don’t think Birmingham have a poor squad. They’ve spent a lot of money and have some very good players there.
Just remembered I was talking to Deano in pub last night. He reckons the takeover is nearly done. We were both battered but me more so.
Sounds like he’s doing well in his battle against alcoholism! Other than that good news however, I hope.
We have no idea. I suspect actually Monk ( and most other managers) would have walked (or just hung around hoping to be sacked). Nigel is still reeling out his positivity, probably the most important thing he can do from the players point of view, they need some continuity. I suspect that would very much be a part of his ethos in generating a settled and positive environment for the players to perform, rather than the chaos he finds himself up against. I must admit I do question some of Atkins tactics/ selections/ subs, especially recently, but he wouldn't be human if he too wasn't affected by the general malaise and negativity around the place. That's without even considering what it's like for him to have to answer to Enob on a daily basis.
Where are they all now: Jeff Hemmerman was a bit of a cult hero at Cardiff for the goals he scored in one of their promotion seasons. He now has a physio/rehab business in Newport.
