Not strictly true, what about Korea and Brazil (which has weather similar to Spa)? Also possibly Japan.
Server issues have made the forum quiet tonight unfortunately. If people have somehow missed the message the forum will dissapear at 1am for 30mins ish as we get an extra server.
-Given the fact Jenson Button qualified 2nd, finished 2nd and nearly won but for McLarens less than subtle radio message with the highest downforce setting, -given the fact that the 2 DRS zones cover a significant portion of the track, -given the fact that qualifying is extremely important in F1 even at a track like Spa, Do you think it likely that any driver may take a chance and put significantly more wing on the car than anyone else to get a really good grid spot (given DRS can be used for the whole of a qually lap) and count on the extra grip and DRS zones to help them in the race? Might be a good option for a Lotus, Virgin or HRT given the fact that they won't score if they follow the "normal" method anyway. and even if they don't get to the points, should be good coverage for them.
A high downforce set-up might work for qualifying but will be very risky in the race where DRS will be limited. It'll make overtaking a lot harder, and defending almost impossible. I don't think any of the top teams will take the risk.
Well im tempted to choose Button, but weather says damp and we all know who won it last time when it was wet
Gone for Button because of his run of form and that this is the only track I have seen Red Bull struggle at.
This might sound random but has anyone noticed that Vettel now has more points than when he won the championship last year? We still have 7 races to go...obviously someone will steal it from him
Yeah, I think there was another thread where people came to the same conclusion. The only reason Button's set-up worked last year was because the F-duct meant he could still keep up on the straights.
Vettel again for me in this race, he has the luck of the devil no matter what happens on the track. Will probably pick him every race until the end of this so that I can be Champion predictor on not606 F1 board!
We saw McLaren make a stupid decision with adding more downforce hoping for rain on race day but it never came in Spa. It made them sitting ducks on the straights, at least with Jenson he seemed to have less wing than Lewis, so I wondering whether that was a driver decision. They should go for as little wing as possible to be able to overtake in the race/ get a good grid slot.
I think because it was Spa, Mclaren thought that the race was will at some point have rain. I think Monza rewards teams that have the best low downforce package and powerful performance cars. Spa has a sector which requires downforce but Monza must be one of the easiest track to set up a car. Mercedes could be a dark horse here, they have a powerful engine which produces masses of straight line speed which is perfect at this track.
Yes, but they should have probably played it safe with their downforce levels. As for Monza the car with the most stability under braking, straightline speed and the most powerful DRS will be the team that set the pace. I see a McLaren, Ferrari , Red Bull and Mercedes challenging and in that order.
