I've got a cut price (sort of) subscription to Amazon Prime, mainly just to see what it is all about, I have a Kindle and buy books and other stuff anyway and so its free delivery. Anyway I have been following a series, Taken, and really liked it, and kind of Homeland theme, but as I am now on series 2 it is starting to take the same path as Homeland, in other words the plots are getting daft. I can accept some unbelievable heroic stuff, like Jason Bourne and his ilk, but when the hero of this series, Bryan Mills, takes out a whole posse of villains it puts me off. This is not to be confused with the Liam Neeson film of the same name but there are many similarities in the themes.

I’m with you there, no matter the genre, when things get daft it ruins it. That’s why I got approximately 15 minutes into that’s brittania series sky plastered everywhere, as soon as I saw roman soldiers acting like modern day footballers and a teenage girl kill about 10 highly trained and armed legionaries with her bare hands I lost interest, fell asleep and never bothered putting it on again.

Killing Eve got a bit daft in a Kill Bill sort of way but I thought it was brilliant.

I watched recently and liked Just before I go. Sort of went daft at the end but it sort of had to happen.

The series is based on the films isn't it, I thought it was the same character in early life . I only watched one episode and decided I'd rather just watch the film weekly like I have for about 3 years instead <laugh>

I'm pretty sure it is actually is directly based on the movies. The character name is the same, Bryan Mills, and both film and TV series are by Luc Besson.

Yes and yes. The TV series stars Clive Standen (Rollo in Vikings).

Clive James Standen (born 22 July 1981) is a British actor best known for playing Bryan Mills in the NBC series Taken, based on the movie of the same name, as well as Rollo in the History Channel series Vikings,

I've noticed with the Americans, they have a good series then flog it death to keep the advertisers happy, I think that's what happened with Homeland, and Taken is going the same way. Going back years to Dallas, Dynasty and the rest, I used to watch them as they were good for a laugh in the end, although my wife was mesmerised by these series, I had to point out the absurdities of the plots.

Could be Frank, but as I have stated, its slowly losing my interest despite me getting 'into' the series earlier on, shame really.

Has anyone noticed what a crap actor Liam Neeson actually is? Just an aside comment but popped into my head.

We watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy on Netflix tonight. I had to put my laptop down to follow it with Mrs A's help, but great film. I do enjoy the Cold War genre.

    Great film
Mrs A should ban you from being on the laptop while watching films! ...or did you mean you were so physically weak she had to help you with it? ;)

Then you should like, The Spy Who Came In From the Cold, Askew, one of the first Le Carre's books to get the film treatment, Richard Burton is superb as Alec Leamas, Denholm Elliott played George Smiley in A Murder Of Quality, another Le Carrè book. I think I have them all now, including the latest one A Legacy Of Spies, which revisits the George Smiley era. But I have to admit, being overawed with Alex Guinness's portrayal of George Smiley in the BBC adaptions, Gary Oldman didn't do it for me in the remake of Tinker Tailor, on top of the that the location and other things were changed from the original, on the insistence of Le Carrè himself I believe. I couldn't help but compare the two and Alex Guinness's Smiley wins out every time for me. I think The Little Drummer Girl is now being made into a film, directed and produced by Le Carre's sons, and Le Carrè himself has a cameo role so I've read.

Has anybody seen the new Halloween?

Does anybody know how many of the 1,000 previous Halloweens I'd need to watch before seeing the new one?

Saw it last night at the Horror film festival I mentioned earlier.

Just watch the original first. This one erases the rest of them from the canon, and is infinitely better for it.

Also, this new Halloween is great. Definitely go see it as soon as you can.

I shall look these up thanks.
I aren't a great film buff, and this genre is pretty much the only area Mrs A have any sort of agreement!
