Maybe they've genuinely learnt from last year and don't want to.leave it to so late in the season again?

Learnt? Like instead of waiting too long, knee-jerk the decision quickly, even though the problems are everywhere......and not just the under appreciated gaffer.

I get the feeling Saints were reluctant to give Hughes a contract in the summer but felt they didn't have a choice given he kept us up. Hughes was never a long term part of the plan here. In fact he wouldn't have been part of the plan at all if Pellegrino hadn't been so terrible. There are options out there who would suit us better, no doubt about it but I think he deserves a bit longer. It would leave a slightly bitter taste if he was dismissed now. After all, he's a considerably better manager than Pellegrino who had until March. And they certainly shouldn't sack him until they have someone lined up to replace him. No offence Kelvin, but I don't want you as caretaker manager for any length of time.

Statistically, the end of November is the best time to sack your manager. (especially if none of his summer signings have made an impact and we're still playing the same team that failed last season)

Would be some tidy earnings for a few months work if we sack him...

If true the big question is who is available? Who is out of work? Who would come here?

That'll be the main criteria judging by recent history...

    2+2 = 5

Gerado Martino of Atlanta Utd is heavily rumoured to be off after the MLS playoffs.

The reason it is a long shot is that he is rumoured to be taking over the Mexican national team...but a move to Europe is also possible according to his agent.

    @Le Tissier's Laces you'd take that eh :)

I’m all for making the change early if things aren’t working, we’re deep in the **** AND we have what we think is the right man lined up to replace. I think it’s a bit early to be making that call personally. Give it another month and reassess.

FWIW, unless they can pull out a MP1 out of the hat, we are by no means in the hopeless situation we were last year. MP2 was looking clueless even at this stage of the season last year.

MH may not be everyone's favourite, but I think he has more than enough to turn us around.

No point in finding another MP1 while the board room & ownership stay the same.
    Sad, but true.

Agreed. Would be very odd timing, but then we are run by incompetents, so little surprises me currently.

Alas, you are right. They are entirely incompetent. But the key is that you've said "little" rather than "nothing". Hughes getting sacked this week would still be something which surprises. I just don't see what he has really done wrong, and I don't see a squad of under-performing players. And that's even before getting onto the fact that they were happy to give MP significantly longer.

Now OK, granted, if we were to lose at home to Newcastle, that could be a result which Hughes can't come back from. Rightly or wrongly, that could be seen as a big enough hammerblow to take action. But we're not there yet. I don't want to thinking about anything other than three points on Saturday.

PS. As for Jardim, come on? Are the media serious? You don't go from managing Monaco in the CL, to managing Saints in a relegation battle. (Or if you do, you wait a lot longer than than two weeks, to see what else is out there first.)

Funny you say that, guarantee that if we appointed him then well over the half of the support would be happy and justify it with 'well we won't go down'...

I'd have to stop going to home games and spend 90 minutes shouting "**** OFF SAM ALLARDYCE" at away games.
